Coming from a simple supportive family in Long Island, Phil Loft was imbibed in the musical expertise from the age he started to understand his surroundings. Music was his first preference from an early age, so he took up music lessons within the four walls of his home that generated appropriate milieu for him to dream bigger. He grew his passion for music with time and soon he started resonating himself with the artists he went to see the concerts of. This realization led him to a new chapter of his life, the beginning of accomplishing the feats against the odds.
It was 2015 when the wheel turned for Phil Loft as he dropped his debut single “Think B4 Sound.” After the breakthrough, he did not have to wait for long to catch the ladder of success as he released two back-to-back hits “Believe” and “C.A.T.S. ( Chill Against The Shore)” in 2019 that made him a renowned face in the music industry.
We got a chance to have a small chat session with him and here’s how it went:
-
Has it always been your dream to become an artist?
Actually, my dream before becoming an artist was to be a Monster Truck Driver/ Race car driver but as I got older and more into the arts as a young teen into my adulthood music creeped into my desires like an ocean tide.
-
Did you get the support you needed to grow as a soloist with potential endeavors?
I did. The support of my family and friends really helped. My mother and grandmother were in the music business at some point in their lives and when they realized how serious I was they had my back every step of the way.
-
How did you first get into music?
I was in chorus in elementary school but before then my mom and grandmother would play some amazing music from artists such as Sade, Whitney Houston, Anita Baker, Luther Vandross, The Stylistics, Aaliyah, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, and the list goes on. Also, my Step Grandfather, as well as my mom, would get us a lot of tickets to many concerts from legends BB King, Carol King, Luther Vandross, Tina Turner, Sting and Sade to Beyonce, Christina Aguilera, Jayz, Lady Gaga, and Usher. There are so many other shows I could list but these are just a few examples why I was so driven to do what I do today.
-
Whom do you look up to as your idol of inspiration?
Hands Down Sade then I took a lot of notes on an artist like Janet Jackson, Sting, Seal and Lara Fabian.
-
Was it hard to get the first break?
Well, I want to say first that I never really got a break but more so I put myself on the map and was it hard? Yes, it was. I am very much an introvert and like to be to myself. My circle of people is extremely tight so the idea of getting myself out there and being venerable is and was scary.
-
Which one incident has changed your life forever?
I believe it was when I released my first record on my own. It feels empowering and knowing it’s my song that came from the air amazes me. It amazes me all the time when I do this sort of thing that been my new normal.
-
Name two of your favorite compositions?
That’s a challenge But I would have to Say Believe and C.A.T.S. As of now.
-
What was your reaction to seeing the success of your two new singles “Believe” and “C.A.T.S. ( Chill Against The Shore)”?
I am extremely humbled and thankful for all the love and acknowledgment these two singles are getting because these songs represent the level of artistry that I am today and tomorrow
-
What is so different about your new records?
I feel like I tapped into another level of myself with these records. They seem honest and they come from an honest place which is very important. Not that my other records weren’t but the entire production I had a hand in or more directive per se.
