The very gifted D1T has belted out smashing sounds of pop, rap, and party and engaged innumerable listeners. The singer who is based out of Dirty South has come up with his latest release ‘Get Down’. He is a multitalented artist and has shown his incredible finesse in songwriting and producing as well.
The singer is bug-bitten by major artists like Stevie Wonderland, Prince, and above all Michael Jackson. He is well-known in the music industry circuits of America and the UK and his tracks can be found on major platforms like YouTube, Spotify, and Soundcloud. He also has got his profiles on major social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram from where the fans can fetch relevant information.
We finally caught up with the artist and asked him for an interview and he was candid enough to reply in the affirmative. Firstly, we congratulated him on his latest endeavor and wished him all the luck for his queued up ventures.
Q: What was the initial drive that prompted you to take up music as a profession?
A: I wrote my first song when I was in the 6th grade sitting in class watching leaves fall from a tree. After writing my first song other songs would come to me from out of the blue everyday still to this day. For years I would makeup songs and file them in my head, never really planning to record any of them. As an adult, I became a teacher and would produce and perform in my school-directed plays, talent show, dances, etc. My gift or curse of composing songs in my head continued. Some days I would walk down the school hallways singing and dancing and my co-workers would say “ok, MJ get it. When is your concert?” jokingly? Then one day, at my school annual Talent Show called, “Spring Bling”, one of my co-workers sat beside me and said, “Bro. you good.” I said, “Thank you, I try.;” He said, “Bro., you don’t understand. You really good. I thank you may have missed your calling. I know you like teaching and working with kids, but you belong on that stage. You really are good.” After my conversation with him and the pandemic hit and I had time to think. I started writing lyrics and setting them to music and professionally recording songs.
Q: Which genre gives you more temptation if you had to choose between rap and pop?
A: I love pop music because I can be more creative with sound and storytelling. I love rap, but it’s not a genre that influences me to write music.
Q: Do you idol worship any icon from yesteryears or you have been influenced by someone close to you?
A: Artists that have a strong influence on me are Michael Jackson, Prince, Stevie Wonder, and James Brown. You can hear a heavy influence from all of them in my music and singing style.
Q: What according to you is your greatest strength as a musician and how often do you use that quality?
A: My greatest strength as a musician is coming up with hooks and melodies to any instrumental or with no music at all. I use my gift every time I work on a new project.
Q: Which contemporary musician according to you has got the best qualities to make a remarkable impression in the music world?
A: According to me, D1T is the musician with the best qualities to make a remarkable impression in the music world. Because Da’ #1 Trend is a new recording artist unleashing his genius versatile multi-talent to the world.
Q: Are you pretty much satisfied with the way things are shaping up for you or you hate to be in a status quo even if it is comfortable?
A: I am a developing artist growing. I have made some mistakes and probably will make some more. But with each mistake, I grow and get better. I am comfortable with the way I am developing as an artist. “You can’t get up if you never fall down.”
Q: How do you reckon your success to date?
A: Has it surpassed the expectations you set out for or is it lagging? To date, I think I am growing at a fair pace. Things could be better, but I am paying duels. Every artist must pay duels before they are successful in the industry. My streaming numbers are growing daily, my social followings are growing super slow, but growing. I’m ok with it, because I’m still putting in work, and until I get a big hit. I know how to keep putting in work.
Q: How has the year log pandemic affected you? Did you use this time to build up any sort of special interest or you just went with the flow?
A: The pandemic is one of the reasons I started writing lyrics and setting them to music and professionally recording songs. I write a new song every other day and record it a day later. My catalog is growing fast due to this pandemic because I have a lot of time to think and write.
Q: Which is your most favorite place where you get the adrenaline rush to perform and enjoy to the fullest?
A: When I get on any stage, I get the adrenaline rush to want to perform. It doesn’t matter if it’s high school graduation or a talent show. The stage is my first home.
Q: What is your take on the way the music industry in America and Europe are functioning? Do you suggest any changes or you are happy with the way things are progressing?
A: The music industry is prejudice against older artists. The industry caters to young artists. When is the last time an older artist charted? Think about it, but it’s understandable. Young consumers buy music, older consumers stream music. The music industry is a business. If the majority of your customers are young, if you want to make money, you cater to the majority of your audience. It’s a young artist world, but if your music is good, an older artist can be heard. They just have to work harder. I’m ok with the music industry functioning because my music is Fire! My music is 1000% better than over 90% of the music topping the chart right now and in the industry to date.
Q: Do your songs attach any kind of relevance with the latest developments in the world or you mirror other human emotions?
A: Yes, I write about things going on in life all the time. I have a song about the pandemic, I write about everyday people problems, happiness, love problems, falling in love, etc.
Q: If you want to meet an icon from the past do you prefer to go back in time or you prefer to live in the present and look at it with a more modern approach?
A: I would love to meet Michael Jackson and Prince just see if we all write music because it is a part of us or it just comes to us.
