Artists Ricky Martin and Carlos Vives recently teamed up for their very first collaboration. The result of this creative collab is a song called ‘Cancion Bonita’ or ‘Pretty Song’.
The song is a peppy, dance track that symbolizes the cultural celebration of Vives’ Colombian roots and Martin’s ancestry in Puerto Rico. The song is an invitation asking the audience to celebrate. In the song, the artists are seen celebrating Puerto Rico. The song itself was shot in Old San Juan.
In an interview, Martin shares the inspiration and idea for the song. He shares, “If anything, we’re more childlike than the new generation. We’ll never change. We’re relaxed. We’ve achieved pretty things in life. We don’t have to prove anything to anyone.” Vives, who lived some time in Puerto Rico before the start of his career also added, “We don’t want to change. We want to be the same people. And this song is a declaration of love to a city I love. And it’s one of Ricky’s cities. For me to have a piece of Ricky in this song … it’s total happiness.”
The newly released track carries a happy message. The song is written by Mauricio Rengifo and Andrés Torres, the production duo behind ‘Despacito’ along with Rafa Arcaute who is a renowned composer and the VP of A&R at Sony), Vives and Martin.
Martin says that “It was a party song. We couldn’t release it at that point.” He was at home quarantining until Vives came to him with the song at the beginning of the year. He later added, “Carlos Vives took me out of quarantine to film a video.”
Vives also shares that when he came to the country, Martin’s career was just taking off. This song is his way of giving back. Watch the new video on YouTube right now.
