The report dissects the data of various streaming platforms on a global scale and tells us who the best performing songwriters were last year.
The chart of top songwriters on Spotify was revealed based on the information collected by the data platform Blokur. It is dedicated to keeping track of the performance of the songwriter across the world on different streaming platforms.
According to their 2020 report, Finneas O’Connell was the best performing songwriter on Spotify last year. O’Connell is Billie Eilish’s older brother and he wrote also half of the songs of Eilish. He also has a successful independent career and co-wrote and co-produced many songs in 2020 by musicians such as Halsey, Justin Bieber/Benny Blanco, Celeste, and Demi Lovato.
In Blokur’s songwriter chart, they judge the artists based on many factors. They observe the success of the songs on different streaming platforms and their charts. They also see the percentage of the songwriting credit that songwriters receive.
On July 6th Finneas O’Connell was named the top songwriter worldwide on Spotify. Thomas Hull, also known as Kid Harpoon, secured second place. He teamed up with Harry Styles for his double-platinum album, ‘Fine Line’.
The top 5 songwriters on Spotify last year are Finneas O’Connell, XXXTentacion, Billie Eilish, Juice Wrld, and Ed Sheeran. The charts revealed the top 5 non-artist songwriters as well. They are Finneas O’Connell, Thomas Hull aka Kid Harpoon, OZ, Nick Mira, and John Cunningham.
The best thing about it is that Finneas O’Connell topped both charts. His incredible storytelling ability has earned his the spot. He is currently signed to a renowned music company Kobalt.
In February this year, it was revealed that Finneas O’Connell will score his first-ever movie. He will write songs for the upcoming movie, ‘The Fallout’. The emotional film is about the aftermath of a high school tragedy.
