Music-streaming platform Spotify recently announced their partnership with American giant airlines company, Delta Air Lines. The partnership will bring Spotify’s music inventory as part of the in-flight seatback entertainment.
A recent blog post released by the company said, “Beginning today, we are taking off in a new partnership with Delta in which Spotify will take over the ‘audio’ section of Delta’s in-flight seatback entertainment”. They also added, “This means passengers on Delta flights that are equipped with seatback entertainment globally can now enjoy their favorite audio content exclusively in-flight on Delta Studio”.
Spotify, on the other hand also said that their platform already houses over 20 million flight-related, user-generated playlists across the world. The new partnership with Delta Airlines will further enable passengers and music enthusiasts to ‘tap into their favorite audio content while flying”.
All in-flight content has been directly licensed by the airline company and will offer free music for every passenger. The library will contain a special playlist curated from some of the platform’s most sought-after existing playlists. It will be tailor-chosen in the form of mixtapes. The project is undertaken by the experts of Spotify’s editorial team. They also have an array of 42 select podcast series from which the final ones will be selected.
Spotify is currently the biggest music-sharing giant in the world with a music library surpassing any other streaming platform out there. Now, in-flight passengers will be able to listen to their favorite music and discover new ones. Not just music, Spotify runs numerous podcasts some of which will also be a part of their partnership with Delta Airlines. Passengers on the flight can access music and podcasts just by selecting the ‘audio’ section of the airlines’ seatback in-flight entertainment system. The company also revealed that their playlists will be updated on a daily basis catering to every group of passengers.
Spotify also came out with a new feature called ‘Blend’ with allows the curation of a shared playlist that one can create with their friend only last week. The playlist will go through regular updates based on the listener’s music preferences. The new feature will also provide insights to users about their music performances in comparison to their peers.
The new feature also enables data stories that users can share on social media. Blend was initially released back in June but it was under beta testing until its official launch this week.
