Veteran pop music artist from Perth O’Neill Fernandes puts his best efforts to break the monotony of contemporary music with his classic album, ‘Down Under’.
Australian music holds a special place in my heart. I was very excited to find musician and instrumentalist O’Neill Fernandes who has created an entire album making instrumental covers of classic compositions by renowned Australian artists from different eras. The album, ‘Down Under’ features 20 such covers forming an ambiance of total sonic bliss. He has showcased his exemplary creative artistry through his very own instrumental version of famous Australian singer Olivia Newton-John’s hit track, ‘If Not For You’. I loved the soothing resonance of the song oozing of the thematic diversity that the prolific pop music artist from Perth has used. It lingers in the mind for a long time after you listen to it.
Released only a month ago, the album, ‘Down Under’ has received mostly positive reviews from the fans. What I loved most about it is that it has the potential to unite all the generations under a single roof as the 20 tracks featured in the album are from different decades. I found his rendition of Mondo Rock’s ‘State Of The Heart’ highly eclectic and rich in versatile melodic zests. O’Neill Fernandes feels a deep connection with the melodies in the album and is determined to make people experience their acoustic brilliance as well. The tracks like ‘Down Under’, ‘Cheap Thrills’, ‘Curiosity Killed the Cat’, ‘Driving Whels’, ‘Hopelessly Devoted To You’, ‘Cassandra’, ‘Crazy’ and ‘Lady What’s Your Name’ have left me awestruck.
