Daddy Yankee, one of the biggest names of world music, especially the Reggaeton genre, has announced to take retirement after 32 years of a long and glorious career in music. Fans showed their disappointment soon after the official announcement by the singer
The singer, in a video uploaded on Youtube, said, “This race, which has been a marathon, finally sees the finish line. Now, I am going to enjoy what all of you have given me.”
He even added, “People say that I made this genre worldwide, but it was you who gave me the key to open the doors to make it the biggest in the world.”.
He will bid goodbye to his fans in his last tour and album, ‘Legendaddy’ which will be out on March 24.
He said, “I’ll give you all the styles that have defined me on one album. ‘Legendaddy’ — it’s fight, it’s party, it’s war, it’s romance.”
The song ‘Gasolina’ by Yankee was introduced in 2004 and is often credited as an introduction to reggaeton music. It was the first reggaeton music to have got the nominations in the Grammy awards.
In his whole career, Daddy Yankee has sold more than 30 million records. In the year 2017, he collaborated with Luis Fonsi for the music video Despacito. The song broke all the records with more than 7 billion views on YouTube.
A remix of the popular track featuring megastar of pop music Justin Bieber was released later and was made a massive hit by the fans.
The song ranked the top on Billboard Hot 100 for more than 16 weeks. And currently, the song is the second most-watched video on YouTube after Baby Shark Dance.
The world tour La Última Vuelta will start from 10th August in Poland. Then, it will move on to Portland, Oregon through December and will finish in Mexico City.
During BLMA 2021, the 45 –year-old singer first gave some hints about his retirement. Although fans rejoiced his performance, the event gave birth to the speculation of his farewell to music too.
Daddy Yankee’s farewell record will be an amalgamation of all the records that have defined his career.
