Kendrick Lamar has revealed the launch date for his upcoming album “Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers.” After a five-year wait, the launch is set for May 13, this year.
Kendrick Lamar has updated his Oklama website with a new link. The rapper also unfolded the title and release date of his upcoming album on the site. “Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers” will be released on May 13th.
The announcement was made via a pgLang release, which can be found on the Oklama website. It says it is from Oklama and “through his company pgLang,” which is a moniker Kendrick has teased in the previous year. “All factual information for this release will come directly from this source only,” the release stated.
The bottom of the press release read, “Appreciate your patience.”
On a website published in August 2021, Lamar previewed the album, which he termed his ”final TDE album.” Back then, he wrote, “As I produce my final TDE album, I feel joy to have been a part of such a cultural imprint after 17 years, The Struggles. The Success. And most importantly, the Brotherhood. May the Most High continue to use Top Dawg as a vessel for candid creators. As I continue to pursue my life’s calling.” He signed “Oklama” on the note.
Patience has been Kendrick’s best friend throughout the last five years, since the release of his last studio album in 2017.
Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers is the follow-up to Lamar’s Pulitzer prize-winning album Damn, which was released in 2017. He’s since curated and directed the Black Panther soundtrack, headlined Coachella and Top Dawg Entertainment’s Championship Tour, won a slew of Grammys, and been nominated for an Academy Award.
Kendrick Lamar made appearances on Raphael Saadiq’s “Rearview,” Sir’s “Hair Down,” Dreamville’s “Under the Sun,” the Lion King’s “Nile,” and 2 Chainz’s “Momma I Hit a Lick” in 2019. Before the Covid-19 pandemic closed down concerts and tours for the year, he was due to headline Glastonbury Festival in 2020. Before collaborating with Baby Keem on “Family Ties” and “Range Brothers,” he participated in Busta Rhymes’ song “Look Over Your Shoulders” in October 2020.
Lamar and his longtime collaborator Dave Free founded pgLang in March 2020, describing it as “a new multi-lingual, at Service Company.” He also performed in the Super Bowl this year.
