Get drenched in a romantic essence with the musical duo from Buena Park, the parker story. This talented duo is formed by the couple musician Parker and Anastasia who played a masterful role in creating the single ‘Baby We (Want You To Know)’. These artists are paving their way in the industry with nothing but their sheer talent, love, and passion for music. We are thankful to the artists for sharing a few moments with us while proceeding on their never-ending musical journey.
Q. Congratulations on the debut release of ‘Baby We (Want You To Know)’! How are you guys feeling right now?
OMG – thanks so much! We’re on cloud 9! Baby We is our baby and always will be! We’re super excited to have captured on record who we are as the parker story. We wouldn’t change a single note about this song. FLOATING.
Q. Tell us about your musical journey till now. How are you enjoying the process considering this is just the beginning?
We’ve tested our writing in other groups separately since the late 90s. Always enjoying music and pursuing our passion for it. But it wasn’t until we came together to co-write Baby We that we developed the parker story sound. It’s naturally who we are as writers. We enthusiastically designed and printed over 2,000 promo cards for this release, and have been personally handing them out to everyone here in Chicago. We also have mailed them out to over 10 states across the US. It’s been the best beginning ever!
Q. What obstacles do you find in the modern music industry?
We both strongly believe that a great song will carve its own path. In the past industry, as well as the present. However, with how meaningful the parker story is to us – we’ve been working really hard; promoting, researching, contacting, designing, etc. to stay one step ahead of the game. We’re strategically planning our growth based on how the industry works right now and will fluidly adapt to the changes as they come.
Q. How did the global pandemic affect your music?
We met a season before the pandemic hit. So during it, we spent every minute together, staying in off grid airbnb cabins across the US. Counting shooting stars and listening to inspiring artists that we both love. Feeling an indescribable “dreamy rush”. Turns out, it was the beginning of the parker story and we didn’t even know it.
Q. Being a multi-instrumentalist, what kind of instruments are very close to you, Parker? Do you have a favorite?
I started out playing an acoustic guitar with only 4 strings on it at a garage sale. So without a doubt, acoustics never leave my side. Piano, electric guitars, bass and anything percussion are my writing tools. The sound that any instrument makes is a reflection of what’s happening inside of whoever is playing it. I’ll get a feeling across from whatever is in the room.
Q. Anastasia, how do you like to write songs? The tune first or lyrics?
TUNE FIRST. But not the whole tune. Tune and lyrics work together from the very start to finish for me. Melodies tend to come first, usually in the form of me vocalizing syllables, which then gives me the key and a lot of times the tempo. Whatever feeling I have, when this all happens, determines what my lyrics will be about.
Q. As a musical duo, you guys are quite compatible and that reflects through your music. How was ‘the parker story’ established?
It all started on August 3rd, 2019. At a hometown festival. The second we saw each other, the connection was unreal. Like we knew each other in a past life. We joke about how some ideas that come to us in our songs, were already written by some long forgotten couple that maybe wrote and never got a chance to record any of it. The Universe established us.
Q. Since your music is based on pop and indie flavors do you wish to dabble with other genres in the future?
The sound that we have developed is the most natural it can get. However, in an almost weird way – we draw inspiration and listen to every genre of music. We don’t have a favorite artist(s), just favorite songs. We demo tracks in other styles just to cross reference and create different vibes, and have fun while doing it. So, in saying that – we’ll never intentionally stick to a specific genre to maintain an image. We’ll always be who we are and if change naturally happens, then that’s who we will be.
Q. The tiny studio apartment surely helped you guys to come up with a new project. Do you wish to continue your work from there or look for other ventures?
Apt 307 has played a huge part in creating Baby We, but we do like to live in different neighborhoods and travel A LOT. We purposely invested in a portable recording setup that allows us to create wherever we are on the road. It’s amazing for our lifestyle.
Q. Would you like to shed some light on the forthcoming projects in your hand?
Yes! We have our next two release arrangements written and have multiple demo versions of them. Our next release date is set for mid June!
Q. What advice would you like to give to your fellow music artists in the music industry?
DREAMS.ARE.REAL. If you are passionate enough and believe in your songs, it will guide your journey. If you’re having fun and love every second of your creations, you’ve already made it. We work/re-work our songs until they become our favorite. Trust us, do the same thing and you’ll never be let down.
Q. Is there anything that you guys want to share with the listeners?
Music is so diverse. And there are so many great artists expressing themselves through songs that never even get a chance to be heard. We’re just happy and thankful to be able to record and share our craft with you all. Baby We (Want You To Know) is about how we spent our summer of 2021 but it can mean anything that you want it to be. That’s the joy in music – hearing a certain record in a given moment is what connects artists to their fans. We really hope that everyone that hears our songs can connect.
