Megan Thee Stallion, a three-time Grammy-award-winning recording artist, composer, and philanthropist, was honored with a proclamation and a key to the city by Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and other City Council members on Sunday.

Born Megan Jovon Ruth Pete, the 27-year-old rapper was delighted to receive the honor from the mayor of the city.

The singer not only won the key from the mayor but also received a cowboy hat and an official belt buckle as well.

Turner declared May 2nd “Megan Thee Stallion Day,” which also happens to be her grandmother’s and mother’s birthdays.

Innovators, creators, successful business executives, physicians, astronauts, sports, educators, and celebrities have been honored in Houston in the past.

Turner says he chose the entertainer and Texas Southern University alumnus to honor her philanthropic contributions.

Mayor Turner said during the event, “Individuals who receive the key are responsible of upholding Houston’s values and represent the best this city offers. In fact, the key is our commitment to those who represent Houston at its best.”

Turner said, “Megan Thee Stallion has an extraordinary entertainment career, but we wanted to honor her for what she does offstage to lift people’s lives in underserved communities.”

He added, “She assisted people after the 2021 winter storm, during the pandemic, and helped those struggling with homelessness. I look forward to watching her grow as an artist and humanitarian.”

Megan Thee Stallion established the Pete and Thomas Foundation in 2021 to remember her father and mother’s memories.

Education, health, housing, and wellness are all priorities for the foundation.

The Houston rapper surprised three people with $5,000 each from her foundation for schooling, housing, and wellness expenses before the proclamation presentation on Sunday.

Megan shared the following on Instagram:

“Came home real quick to get THEE KEY TO THEE CITY and in honor of my mother and grandmother’s birthday MAY 2ND is officially MEGAN THEE STALLION DAY IN HOUSTON TX thank you Mayor @sylvesterturner for honoring me today and I will continue to give back to the city that made me who I am today #htown”.

Last week, Megan Thee Stallion was in the headlines as she revealed about rapper Tory Lanez, who shot her in the foot.
