Various musicians from all over the globe such as Coldplay, Billie Eilish, Shawn Mendes, and more are expressing their support to the international advocacy organization Global Citizen to appeal to the world leaders to make effort and take some action to fight poverty and climate change across the world. The musicians have come together and teamed up with the organization to issue an open letter to the worldwide governments, industry leaders, and billionaires to act fast on battling global climate change and poverty.
The pandemic has impacted the global economy and the financial condition of many around the world. It has also slowed down the progress that the world had already made to help people financially and eradicate poverty once in for all. As per the report of the World Bank, nearly 100 million people came under the extreme poverty line in the recent years in recent years.
The letter is a part of Global Citizen’s end Extreme Poverty Now campaign. It was announced during the opening ceremony of the summit. In the letter, the artists insist that world leaders take immediate action against various global problems like poverty and climate change. It covers points like ‘breaking systemic barriers that keep people in poverty,’ taking climate action now, and ‘empowering young women and girls across the world.’ At the opening ceremony of Global Citizen NOW, the letter was published. It was the first leadership summit of the organization that took place in New York City On last Sunday, May 22nd.
The event was held over two days and more than 200 speakers from different disciplines like journalism, pop culture, activism, science, philanthropy, politics, and more participated in the event to support the noble causes. The letter is going to bring the issues to the spotlight, bringing a positive change in the world.
Apart from Billie Eilish, Coldplay, and Shawn Mendes, hundreds of other celebrities and musicians signed the letter addressed to the global leaders.
