Instrumental tracks always possess a special place in every music lover’s heart and Triple M is embracing that through his every creation. This talented music artist has announced the release of his upcoming single ‘What If You Fly’ on September 23. The listeners are quite excited about the release and so is the artist. Let’s see what thoughts he has shared with us in this auspicious moment of his success.
DMR: ‘What If You Fly’ is truly a unique title. How did you come up with it? Tell us the idea behind it.
Triple M: It was inspired by the opening sample used in the track. COVID was a weird time for everyone and there was a lot of uncertainty within the music community. I’ve spent a lot of time refocusing and reflecting creatively. I had a lot of uncertainty exploring this project as well as the follow-up releases. I think it’s something most people can relate to… it can be hard to jump. What if you fall? Well, what if you fly? That’s the message I wanted to communicate with this track, but I also wanted the feel to be uptempo and optimistic while maintaining the essence of Hip-Hop.
DMR: This is a complete instrumental track. Does that make you a multi-instrumentalist? Tell us what kinds of instruments you prefer to work with.
Triple M: I’m no Prince or Stevie Wonder, but because of the evolution of electronic music, I’m able to be a Jack of all trades in a lot of ways. I produced this track in its entirety as I do most of my work. The MPC and other samplers are at the forefront. Drum machines and synthesizers also play major roles in most of my sounds. Through those instruments and the power of technology, I can tell a lot of stories.
DMR: Do you want to proceed with instrumental projects only? Please shed some light on your
upcoming projects.
Triple M: No, I always want to explore as many creative outlets as I can. I was always an artist first and have a love of performing. I also want to establish myself as a producer and engineer. My upcoming instrumental releases helped create the road map for where I go after. I will continue to release instrumentals for the remainder of 2022 as well as early 2023. The plan after that is to return to performing as an artist. I’d also like to continue producing for other artists and work in every genre of music I can.
DMR: You are former members of NARAS-The Recording Academy as well as CMA. How would you
describe your experience of being involved with reputed foundations?
Triple M: I became a member of The Recording Academy when I was 21. It was a big deal for me personally, but I was also young and naive in a lot of ways. I thought it would shoot me to the next level, but realistically it allowed me opportunities to meet other musicians. A lot of musicians aren’t supported by major labels or have major teams to help develop a brand. It was refreshing in a way to see other people grind like I was. All of the creation, promotion, and performance is coming from the same source and that’s a lot of work. You only do that work if you love what you are doing and I’ve enjoyed meeting and working with people who love music as I do.
DMR: Did you find your knack for music in childhood? Who helped you to pursue it?
Triple M: I grew up in a musical household, music was always on. I performed a lot when I was young, but I started writing and producing music around 13. I knew what I wanted to do early on, so I focused on getting better. Iron sharpens iron and I’ve worked with musicians who’ve made me better. Music was always the goal.
DMR: Tell us something about your creative influences.
Triple M: I get inspired by real life. Songs can and should come from everywhere. Traveling helps the writing process for me. I wrote a lot when I was in South Africa, sometimes putting yourself somewhere new can make you think differently creatively. Create when you win, create when you lose. People, Art, music, fashion, architecture, nature, animals… if you dive in, anything can influence you creatively.
DMR: Are you currently signed under any label?
Triple M: No, not as of this time. The industry has changed and if you put in the work, the power can be in the creator’s hands. There are still a lot of benefits to being signed by a major label, but right now I’m releasing music independently.
DMR: Who does wish to work with in the future if there is an opportunity for collaboration?
Triple M: Great question, there are so many! Bad Snacks is an amazing producer, she also makes instrumentals so that would be fun! Very talented. Some people I’ve been listening to a lot lately that I’d like to collaborate with are King Princess, Arlo Parks, Anna of the North, Sigrid, Kacey Musgraves, and Lorde. I’d drop whatever I was doing to work with Taylor Swift. I want to work with everyone from Frank Ocean to Kings of Leon to Jay-Z to Margo Price. I’d love to collaborate with my past collaborators as well.
DMR: What are your views on the modern music industry?
Triple M: The power is truly in the listener’s hands. That is great for music fans, if you like a specific genre there are going to be great artists making quality music. As musicians we have to adapt, singles have more impact than albums. Social media drives a majority of the content people consume so naturally, it plays a major role in how music is created and released. I still plan to release albums, but it’s will be nice to release singles consistently. It gives fans something to always be excited about.
DMR: You have made significant progress at such a young age. What advice would you like to give to emerging artists?
Triple M: Never stop learning. Some of the greatest musicians I’ve ever worked with still like to learn and expand. Soak up what you can from everyone around you, not just musicians. Don’t be afraid to jump, that’s the theme of this instrumental. What if you fly?
DMR: What would you like to say to the listeners?
Triple M: Thank you for taking a few minutes to listen to my track. If you enjoyed it, please add it to your playlist and share it with your friends and family! You can follow me on Instagram @officialtriplem for the latest updates. I appreciate you and thank you again for listening.
DMR: How soon your next project will arrive after September?
Triple M: I will be releasing instrumentals constantly for the next few months. I will have two singles coming out in October. ‘Nuance of a Delicate Heart’ will drop on October 14th and ‘Midnight Coffee’ will be released on October 28th. Both will be on major streaming platforms.
