The 2022 edition of the All Africa Music Awards of AFRIMA is soon going to take place and the nomination list has been already published. The list surfaced on Wednesday by the international executive committee of the AFRIMA awards.
Top Nigerian singers along with Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, Fireboy, Kizz Daniel, and many others have been nominated. The public voting option through the portal will be live from Sunday, September 25, 2022. The portal will be live till December 10, 2022, and then it will close until the award ceremony takes place.
AFRIMA awards ceremony is a four-day musical event that features glitz, glamour, and music. The ceremony aims to celebrate emerging talents and the economic frontiers to embrace the culture and creativity in Africa.
Under the category of Best African Collaboration, Kizz Daniel and Fireboy both are nominated. On the other hand, the category Best Female Artiste in West Africa includes Tiwa Savage. It also includes other artists such as Ckay and Ruger.
African artist Costa Titch is leading the game with a total of six nominations for the categories like ‘Song of the Year’ for Flexa; “Best Artiste, Duo or Group in Use of African Dance/Choreography’, ‘Breakout Artiste of the Year,’ ‘Best African Collaboration’, and ‘Best Artiste, Duo or Group in African Electro’. Other than him, Dadju has also gained six nominations.
Ivorian rapper Didi B and Algerian singer Soolking have earned a total of 5 nominations each. Ranking at the third highest nomination, Egyptian rapper and record producer Wegz has also earned five nominations in total. African superstars like Zakes Bantwini and Nomfundo Moh have earned four nominations each.
AFRIMA jury member who is representing the Southern African Region, Adam Tiran, said, “The sheer breadth of music from all over the continent that we considered at the AFRIMA adjudication, for this year’s awards, is mind-blowing.”
Talking about the nomination list, Adam further said, It’s really encouraging to see so many African superstars on the list, as well as other rising stars who have had an amazing year, and, finally, a lot of brand new music discoveries. The future is bright for the continent!”
This year AFRIMA has witnessed a record number of 9,067 entries. Among them, the Jury has selected a total of 382 nominations for 39 categories.
The location for the award ceremony is yet to be revealed the next Wednesday, September 28, 2022. The dates for the award ceremony are scheduled on December 8 to December 11.
