Duranta Deshawn Cook, professionally known as Shawn Cook, was born in California. He came up from the hardships of the Country Club Crest. Shawn was just seven years old when he saw his mother get shot by the neighborhood violence and nearly lose her life. Shawn Cook’s musical inspiration was his mother, who used to sing to him in his childhood.
Later it was music that shed a positive light on the hard and traumatic life of Shawn Cook. His passion is mainly centered on hip-hop, but he has collaborated with many other artists. Snoop Dog, B-Real of Cypress Hilton, Berner, YG, and Young Thug are the legends with whom Shawn Cook has worked so far.
Shawn Cook was credited for co-writing J-Boog’s Grammy-nominated album, “Rose Petals”. He also co-writes Marc E. Bassy’s pop hit “Morning”, which has over 159 million streams on Spotify.
Shawn Cook continues to make an impression on the rap scene by releasing a new single and music video titled “Stay,” courtesy of the record label Queens Gambit. It builds on the growing momentum his discography has so far generated.
The excellent production on “Stay,” which was directed by Andres Flores, keeps the essential hip-hop trap sound with its booming bassline and low end. The track was complemented by harmonic phrases that give the tune a slight R&B vibe. Shawn Cook has a hybrid rap style and talks about love from the perspective of someone exhausted by all the games and demands but continually drawn back while realizing the relationship is toxic.
Shawn Cook raps about love in “Stay” from a sociological standpoint. He likes to compare it to a “reverse carousel,” where magnetic attraction results in a never-ending cycle of happiness and suffering with no chance for serenity.
The stunning music video for “Stay” gives viewers a peek at the artist’s unique grasp of the struggle between love and loss. To demonstrate that not all is lost, it is primarily shot in black and white with occasional bursts of color.
