As a part of the National Football League’s (NFL) Super Bowl LVII pregame scheduled to be held on February 10, the hip-hop artist Saweetie will be performing virtually at Intuit Stadium exclusively in Roblox. The virtual concert is lined up for 7:00 pm ET at Warner Music Group’s Rhythm City. The virtual concert will be re-aired every hour till Sunday, February 12.
Fans attending the Saweetie Super Bowl Concert can make purchases of digital items based on her merchandise and album looks, like boots, hats, headphones, wearable hairstyles, and sweatsuits on the Roblox marketplace, and even win prizes for finishing challenges. They will also get as tokens a Saweetie-themed “Icy” chain for attending her show.
The NFL’s announcement of Saweetie’s performance brought forth a volley of both positive and negative audience reactions. Some of the fans came down really hard on the rapper. The comment section of the announcement post was flooded with fans who questioned Saweetie’s presence on the gaming app and the relevance it would have in terms of the Big Game. Some even joined the argument wondering if the explicit lyrics that the singer uses in her songs, as seen in those like ‘P.U.S.S.Y.’ were appropriate to be associated with the game.
However, the teaser of her performance shows her chiming “clean versions” of her songs. The NFL has also assured that the artist will perform a “family-friendly” and fully motion-captured show of her hit songs including ‘Tap-In”. The artist has expressed her excitement and gratefulness as she gushes over her impending performance. In a statement, she mentioned: “I’m really excited to bring this iconic moment to the metaverse and share my music with a whole new audience in such a unique way! As an artist, innovator, and football fan, to be able to perform during Super Bowl LVII weekend in this new world – Rhythm City on Roblox – is something I never imagined that I would be involved in.”
Being the first Super Bowl-Roblox crossover, it is going to be an iconic milestone in Saweetie’s career. Last year the artist dropped the album The Single Life which marked the end of the relationship drama that followed after her breakup with Migos’ Quavo. The album was a celebration of her singlehood. She herself described the album as being “revolutionary”, “heartbreaking”, “honest”, “a reflection”, and full of “transparency”.
Super Bowl LVII will ensue on Sunday, February 12, with the Philadelphia Eagles playing the Kansas City Chiefs.
