Making melancholy cool again and incorporating it into pop music, Gracie Abrams has become Gen-Z’s one of the busiest pop stars. One of Taylor Swift’s biggest fans and opening for her hero on the Era’s Tour is not the only exciting thing going on in the singer’s life, she is also releasing her debut album this month. ‘Good Riddance‘ is going to be her first-ever studio album that will be released on February 24th. On January 9th of 2023, she released the single “Where do we go now?” alongside the joyous announcement. The young talent took to social media to announce the cover art of the album.
The news of the singer’s debut album has been out for quite some time and she has been working with The National’s Aaron Dessner for her new album. Aaron has writing and producing credits on the album alongside Gracie. Talking about the entire process and Dessner, she said “It’s difficult to imagine these songs living anywhere other than my most secret places, but Aaron reminded me that holding space for brutal honesty in songwriting is kind of the whole point.” Furthermore, she continued by saying how grateful she is to be making the album and how the entire process helped her grow as an artist. She said “I feel an unbelievable amount of gratitude for the opportunity to have made this album. Writing this record allowed me to grow up in ways I needed to.”
The album-making process has helped the artist be accountable for her actions and reflect. Describing how the album helped her in letting go of herself, she also said “It forced me to reflect and be accountable. It allowed me to walk away from versions of myself that I no longer recognized”. Not only Abrams, but Dessner also took to social media to express his excitement for working on ‘Good Riddance’ and it finally being released. On social media, Dessner made a post saying, “Working with her has been one of the most natural and effortless collaborations I’ve ever experienced.”
Describing the process, Dessner said he used to start the day with an instrumental idea and how Gracie sat on a couch or just paced around the room, discussing and writing melodies while he recorded. With the single “Where do we go now?” out now, it is hard to keep calm till the album ‘Good Riddance’ releases.
