And recently we got the opportunity to have a chat with him and this is how it went-
DMR: Hello, PTtheGospelSpitter, and congratulations on your huge success on the song ‘Kingdom’. What would you like to say about the reaction you are getting from all the listeners?
PTtheGospelSpitter: Thank you! To be streamed and downloaded while also garnering #1 in Pop (Top 40/CHR), #6 in AC, Top 20 CCM, Top 15 Gospel/Inspirational digital and Top 50 urban Gospel airplay charting is beyond monumental. And we are playing in over 17,000 retail locations where you hear “Kingdom” while you shop! What a blessing! Thank you!
DMR: How did you come up with the idea for this song?
PTtheGospelSpitter: When I wrote the lyrics for “Kingdom,” I was going through a revelatory time. I was asking YHWH for more guidance along with where my next steps should be. With that said, the concept is about a person coming to grips with who they are; what the main purpose of life is and how to go about accomplishing that for YHWH.
DMR: Can you tell us about the journey of making the track?
PTtheGospelSpitter: Stephen Voyce and I have been connected on Instagram going on three years. I was vibing to one of his records and got the idea for “Kingdom.” Since Stephen and I were already reciprocating engagement on each other’s IG profiles, it made it common sense for me to reach out to him. I explained to him the concept of the record and here we are!
DMR: What would you like to say about your journey till now as an artist?
PTtheGospelSpitter: Very much a work in progress.
DMR: You collaborated with Stephen Voyce on this song. What was your experience of working with him?
PTtheGospelSpitter: I figured the best way to really make an impact with this record was to reach out to someone who has gone through something. When I would look at Stephen’s posts, he would take time to give you insight into his thoughts and his journey. Some of his points really had me thinking deep about my own life. When I saw that, I knew he was the perfect fit for “Kingdom.” I also wanted the record to be a little different than what most would expect to hear from a faith based (Gospel or CHH) record. I wanted “Kingdom” to be able to get into the hearts/minds of any listener regardless of the genre they listen to.
DMR: You are a gospel singer but what has inspired you to choose gospel over any other music genre?
PTtheGospelSpitter: I started as a backing vocalist in secular R&B and Hip Hop. However, that also took me down a dark path that wasn’t for me. I certainly don’t knock anyone who pursues secular R&B and Hip Hop. My inspiration comes from being able to share The Good News and make sure when the blessings flow; you give YHWH thanks.
DMR: Who is your inspiration to become a musician?
PTtheGospelSpitter: My mother! She sang in the Gospel Choir at Wheat Street Baptist Church in Atlanta. The choir toured in the United States and internationally often with me as my mom’s plus one. I witnessed her devotion to it and over time that same blessed energy and devotion was poured into me.
DMR: Would you like to try out any other genre in the future? If yes, then what would you try out?
PTtheGospelSpitter: I love how North American College and Community radio placed “Kingdom” in Hip Hop. The song debuted at #8 on WXAV’s Top 10 Hip Hop Chart (Chicago, IL) and #5 on WCSF’s Top 10 Hip Hop Chart (Joliet, IL). That gives us Pop, Gospel, CCM,Hip Hop and AC/Hot AC radio airplay. Look at YHWH and all these blessings!
DMR: Is there any new project you are working on right now?
PTtheGospelSpitter: My team and I have been crafting some more creative ideas that should be epic. Stay tuned and rock with us on this journey!
DMR: When we are going to experience your upcoming soundscape?
PTtheGospelSpitter: You never know when we might pop-up! We recently screened the “Kingdom” (Praise Worship Mix) feat. Stephen Voyce lyric video in theatres in Los Angeles and Toronto taking home the Best Sound and Music Audience Choice Award of the Experimental, Dance and Music Film Festival. The online screening will take place May 18 and my fans can view it on my YouTube channel.
Dmr: Are you planning to go on any tour in recent times?
PTtheGospelSpitter: We definitely have some really creative ideas brewing now so stay tuned for future meta-, virtual and live performances in various formats, venues and platforms!
DMR: Any message you would like to give to your fans?
PTtheGospelSpitter: Much love and many blessings for your continued support. I was inducted into a Sports Hall of Fame the end of last month. This honor arrives as I’m coming into the knowledge that my Great Grandfather was a Hall Of Famer in Sports as well. Being able to share this all with you as my dad shared with me about our family history is the definition of LIT! While the various number ones for “Kingdom” -National Radio Hits Top 40 and Amazon Movers and Shakers in Songs-for example are great, the true accomplishment is being able to share faith and family in His purpose and to do so with all of you!
