Renée Rapp‘s debut on Saturday Night Live was full of surprises, and this 24-year-old singer and actress blew the minds of every Mean Girls lover. Her reprised Broadway role as Regina George has been a hot favorite. It has been only a week since the 2024 rendition of the cult classic movie has nudged the internet. And Rapp’s appearance on SNL fueled the buzz around this movie. She flaunted her powerful pipes and threw in some unexpected moments on her debut guest performance on this much-talked-about show. The iconic comedy sketch on the show’s first episode of 2024 was on the 20th of January and it started off with a blast.
For her first performance of ‘Snow Angel’, Rapp was introduced by the SNL host and Saltburn star Jacob Elordi. This is the title track from her debut 2023 album; the album peaked at No. 44 positions on the Billboard 200. For this number, she was wearing a white corset dress with matching blazer. She opened the number by impulsively singing the lines while lying down on the scarlet-red rotating floor. But she eventually stood up and completed that powerful number along with a full backing band on stage to boost the power of the song even further.
Rapp emerged back on the stage for her next performance. This time, she was introduced by Rachel McAdams. McAdams was the original Regina George in the 2004 movie, and now as she was introducing Renée Rapp, the crowd went completely gaga over that. This was one of the most brilliant surprises of the first 2024 episode of SNL. Then Rapp performed the iconic song ‘Not My Fault’ making the crowd even more loud. For this number, she was accompanied by Megan Thee Stallion. In the 2024 rendition of the song, they both sang this number for this movie, and they rocked the stage with their impressively vibrant appearances.
For this number, she was in all black, and Megan’s entry from the large cake-shaped stage prop made it even more compelling for the audience. Elordi was the host for the night after he was highly praised for his starring turns in Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla and Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn and earned two BAFTAs. Next up, Justin Timberlake will be returning to SNL on 27th January 2024.
