The pop singer whom the fans tantalized with her track “Brand New Key” has passed away at the age of 76 years. Melanie, the “Lay Down (Candles in the Rain)” singer performed at Woodstock as well.

The late singer has three children named Jeordie, Leilah, and Beau Jarred. They shared a message on Facebook saying, “We are heartbroken but want to thank each and every one of you for the affection you have for our Mother, and to tell you that she loved all of you so much! “

Talking about their mother, they further added,” She was one of the most talented, strong, and passionate women of the era and every word she wrote, every note she sang reflected that.”. They concluded their grief and gratitude by saying, “Our world is much dimmer, the colors of a dreary, rainy Tennessee pale with her absence today, but we know that she is still here, smiling down on all of us, on all of you, from the stars.”

However, the cause of death was not given in the post. Instead, the siblings made a request to the fans to light candles on Jan 24, Wednesday at 10 p.m. CT, They said, “Each of you lights a candle in honor of Melanie. Raise, raise them high, high up again. Illuminate the darkness, and let us all be connected in remembrance of the extraordinary woman who was wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to so very many people.”

Melanie Safka, better known as Melanie was born in Astoria, New York, and made some significant contributions throughout her musical journey. She had two top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 Songs chart namely “Lay Down (Candles in the Rain)”, and one and only “Brand New Key”.

She was found talking about the track in an interview which only proves her creative psyche in music. “‘Brand New Key’ I wrote in about 15 minutes one night.” She further said, “I thought it was cute; a kind of old ’30s tune.”

She was last found working in the studio for her 32nd album which was supposed to offer a collection of cover tracks. Currently, the fans are getting over the sad news and there’s no doubt that the singer will be reminded through her songs.
