Right after the day after she appeared at a Democratic campaign event for Joe Biden, she posted a post on Instagram stating, “All I want is to make music and make people happy and help the world be a little better than how I found it.” On the other hand, she opened up about feeling unwelcome, she stated, “But I’m starting to feel like the world doesn’t want me in it. I’m constantly up against lies being told about me for clout & views … being the butt of the joke every single time because of how I look.”

She further discussed the trolling and how public scrutiny has impacted her, she said her character has been “picked apart by people who don’t know me and [are] disrespecting my name.” This statement has led to her empathetic conclusion, she added, “I didn’t sign up for this s**t — I QUIT ✌🏾.” Right after this post, people started to speculate she might be leaving her music career. But later in a video, she clarified that she is “getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet.”

She clarified on her Instagram video, “I want to make this video because I just need to clarify — when I say I quit, I mean I quit giving any negative energy attention.” She also added, “What I’m not going to quit is the joy of my life which is making music, which is connecting with people because I know I’m not alone.”

In the video, she continued, “If I can just give one person the inspiration or the motivation to stand up for themselves and say they quit letting negative people win, negative comments win, then I’ve done even more than I could’ve hoped for.” She also added, “The love that I’ve received means more than you know”.

This statement woke the legal battle where Lizzo sought to dismiss a sexual lawsuit filed by three of her backup dancers against Lizzo. The three dancers, Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez filed a lawsuit last August alleging abuse, harassment, and discrimination. They mentioned that Lizzo has been violating various workplace infringements while these three background dancers have been working for her.
