DuaLipa has finally released her upbeat third single ‘Illusion’ from the upcoming third studio album ‘Radical Optimism’. The album comes out on May 3rd.
DuaLipa reminds her audience who she is as she finally released the psychedelic-dance single ‘Illusion’ after teasing the single for far too long! This is the third single from her upcoming third studio album ‘Radical Optimism‘, released on 3rd May. Like the album’s two previous singles ‘Houdini’, and ‘Training Season‘, ‘Illusion’ is also a big and bold dance track yet with a very especially House-inspired theme. This newest single taps into several rave and psychedelic influences that seem to have inspired her latest body of work. On the soundscape, Dua makes it clear that she knows what is real and what appears to be an illusion. “Ooh, what you doin’?/Don’t know who you think that you’re confusing/I be like, ‘Ooh, it’s amusing’/You think I’m gonna fall for an illusion,” the artist sings on the very catchy and groovy hook of the track.

Sonically, ‘Illusion’ borrows heavily from the dance-pop era we witnessed with the Noughties Waltzers music. Listening to the latest single from Dua will remind you of several clubs hits like ‘Lady (Hear Me Tonight)’ by the French house duo Modjo, Daft Punk spin-off project ‘Stardust’, etc. The single polishes up the edges with the help of co-producers Danny L Harle and Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker. However, you could still hear the heavy influence of French House music through and through in the track.
A TanuMuino-directed music video has also accompanied the single that features Dua alongside her dancers, swimmers, and high divers at the Piscina Municipal de Montjuïc in Barcelona, Spain. Amusingly, this is also the same location where Kylie Minogue shot her iconic ‘Slow’ music video. On the other hand, the single seems to have impressed the fans who were begging the singer for something new, something with a little variation in her signature disco-pop sound. The first two singles, ‘Houdini’, and ‘Training Season’ left the listeners quite disappointed with the repetitive and monotone sound.
‘Illusion’ has changed the game for DuaLipa, and for the better. The composition goes straight into a 2000s disco/dance-pop theme influenced by French House, giving the album track a complete makeover. The song is still the signature DuaLipa sound, yet found its way toward a refreshing and unique twist. ‘Illusion’ is punchy, grabs right at your throat, and is rich, kind of reminding you of Kylie Minogue’s music. The sleek and shimmering beat of the track gets its perfect complement from DuaLipa’s sleek vocals, ideally capturing the song’s energy.
