Highfield Festival was going on at full throttle on Saturday and suddenly there was a fire at the Ferris wheel! Around 30 people got injured in the gondolas.
Highfield Festival which is considered one of the biggest music festivals in Germany has witnessed a massive accident with around 30 injured people. The festival took place at Leipzig where people commonly ride the giant Ferris Wheel. However, on Saturday, August 17, two gondolas from the wheel caught fire. According to the German news broadcaster, people suffered injuries due to the smoke and fire and fall as well. While most cases were mild and smoke inhalation, four of them suffered fall injuries and burns as well. The police seem to be aware of the source of the fire but an investigation is going on. Some are guessing it can be the electrical circuits or could be the fireworks. The fire was completely extinguished within 30 minutes.
The Organizers of the event shared, “Those affected are receiving treatment and are doing well considering the circumstances,” and further stated, “We are in close coordination with the fire brigade, the police, and the rescue and medical services. We will cordon off the Ferris wheel accordingly and then continue operations as planned.” The incident took place while German rapper Aggu was performing on stage and the music artist handled the situation maturely. The rapper shared on Instagram, “I’m absolutely shocked and upset about the Ferris wheel fire during my show at Highfield.” The artist further stated how he tried to crowd control the situation. He said, “I was only told through my earpiece that I should not stop the show under any circumstances, but should initially continue to talk with you so avoid mass panic. The priority was to prevent the situation from escalating any further. Fortunately, that worked.”
It was quite unfortunate for Highfield Festival which is best known for offering some of the best musical memories to the concertgoers. This German music festival boasts more than 30,000 attendees and is full of energy with some of the best headliners. This year’s headlining list includes Macklemore, Peter Fox, and Rise Against. The performance of Rise Against was delayed due to the Ferris Wheel incident which made people panic. There were also other artists namely, Less Than Jake, Flogging Molly, the Kooks, Marsimoto, Cro, Mando Daio, and the list goes on.
