Topping music streaming platform charts in more than 47 countries, BLACKPINK’s Jennie’s new solo single ‘Mantra’ is making K-pop fans go crazy over the singer.
The new solo track by Jennie, ‘Mantra’ which is also the singer’s first release since signing as a solo artist with Columbia Records in partnership with her label ODDATELIER has become the new pop anthem for all the K-pop fans out there. The tune and the bouncy beats of the track have made it a perfect tune to listen to when you are getting ready to hit the dance floor with your girlies. The song is the ultimate girlie girl song but with an attitude. The music video has gained more than 26 million views on digital platforms within just a few days of its release.
The music video has a lot of things in it and it will definitely keep you engaged till the very last end. The video was shot in Los Angeles and it shows some of the common things of L.A. like the heavy traffic and the ‘In-N-Out’ burger shop which is famous for the residents of Los Angeles. The video is engaging mainly due to the number of outfit changes and Jennie looking like a baddie in all of them along with vibrant color combinations including pink, yellow, red, white, and black. All of these make up a very enticing color palette for the viewers.
The highly expensive cars and the set designs are commendable and perfectly depict the true essence of the song. The chorus hits in the beginning instantly which is accompanied by hooking beats and tunes. The flow of the chorus and the verses are quite similar to each other which makes this song an easy listen. In short, if want to know whether you like ‘Mantra’ or not, you do not have to wait for it to end. You will like it instantly or else you might not. The verse mainly has a bouncy beat behind it but as soon as the chorus hits it all changes.
There seems to be a lot more filler from the instrumental perspective when the chorus comes up. It is filled with a few chords and background vocals which blend perfectly with each other. The new melodic change in 1 minute 17 seconds hits differently than the rest of the track and creates a contrast that feels very soothing to the ears. The melodic part starting at 1 minute 33 seconds is a lot more saturated and the beats are pulled back to give the background vocals a space to fill out. This part is a bit slower than the rest of the fast-paced verses.
The line, ‘It’s not that deep, I’m not that drunk/ Sometimes, girls just gotta have fun’ might be a reference to the iconic singer Cyndi Lauper’s ‘Girl’s Wanna Have Fun’. Overall, the track is a perfect companion if you are feeling good about yourself and want to celebrate it with the rest of the world.
