The brilliantly crafted soundtracks are generating a sensation among all the music fanatics. With each passing day, the artist is mesmerizing more and more audiences from all around the world. Recently, we got the chance to have a chat with him about his musical journey. This is how it went-
DMR: Hello, DXWAVE, congratulations on all the massive hits. What is your response to achieving so much appreciation from all?
DXWAVE: It’s truly amazing. I never imagined that my song would be loved by so many people around the world. Although I’m active in Korea, I think the fact that the lyrics are in English made it easier to reach listeners. These are the happiest moments I’ve had since I started making music. I’m so grateful and cherish the fans who love my music.
DMR: How did you start making music on your own?
DXWAVE: I began my professional career in Korea as a session guitarist. From a young age, my musical roots were in pop music. I loved Michael Jackson and Bobby Brown, and I had a deep interest in dance music. As time passed, while working as a guitarist, I randomly came across Daft Punk’s music, and the moment I heard it, I was completely captivated by their sound. From then on, I started studying composition techniques that involved sampling. I wanted to create groovy music using samples, just like Daft Punk. That’s when I began composing with various instruments like samplers and DJ controllers.
DMR: What was your inspiration behind making new soundtracks?
DXWAVE: My musical inspiration comes from real life. Technology is rapidly advancing, and now we’re in an era where individuals can manage the entire production process alone. Looking at past artistic works, I feel everything is interconnected. Regardless of time, I draw inspiration from timeless music. Artists like Michael Jackson, Daft Punk, and Earth, Wind & Fire have created songs that I can always enjoy.
DMR: Were you always inclined to this particular art form?
DXWAVE: That’s right. It has always been that way. There are so many beautiful works of art in the world, whether in music, painting, photography, or architecture. I believe that art enriches human life spiritually.
DMR: Would you like to share your journey as a music artist?
DXWAVE: That’s right. My musical journey is just beginning. As time goes on, I will continue to share even better works with many fans as a musician.
DMR: You work as an independent artist. What struggles do you need to face while making music?
DXWAVE: It means I have to do everything on my own—music production, distribution, marketing, and planning live performances, which can be challenging. However, when working with an agency or record label, they sometimes push trendy music styles that are popular at the moment. By working as an independent artist, I can maintain my musical identity and style, which I believe is an artist’s true individuality.
DMR: What process do you follow while making a new song?
DXWAVE: If I were to describe my production style, I’d compare it to playing Tetris. Once I find a sample I like, I carefully match other instrument and vocal samples, stacking them like Tetris blocks to complete the song. The key to this process is achieving harmony between each sample, making sure they fit organically with the main sample. The most important aspect when editing samples or loops is the groove. When sampling is done right, the combination of samples creates a pleasing groove.
DMR: How did you come up with so many diverse tracks?
DXWAVE: I enjoy a wide range of music genres, including jazz, blues, rock, and EDM. My musical journey is all about blending these diverse genres with the unique emotion of DXWAVE and presenting it to my fans.
DMR: Are you working on any song right now?
DXWAVE: I’m working on another house music track with J.O.Y, a German R&B vocalist who has been a consistent collaborator on my music. I’m also in the process of creating my second Lo-Fi album, which will feature Ambience Lo-Fi style tracks.
DMR: When will we get to listen to your next soundscape?
DXWAVE: The Ambience Lo-Fi style album is scheduled for release in December.
If my work with J.O.Y finishes quickly, I also plan to release a house single in December.
DMR: Are you planning to do any shows or concerts in the coming days?
DXWAVE: There are no performances scheduled at the moment due to the ongoing album work. Starting in December, after the album release, I am planning a visual art performance that combines AI-generated videos with music.
DMR: Any messages you would like to give to your fans?
DXWAVE: I’d like to thank my fans for always supporting and listening to my music.
I’ll continue to create the best music I can, regardless of genre.
Thank you so much for taking out your time for us. All the very best for your upcoming music projects.
