Beyoncé is known as one of the top pop artists in the industry who helped the industry grow with her unwavering charm, musical skills, and cultural contribution. Being one of the top icons in pop culture, Yale University has just announced a course on her where students can learn, examine, and research her contributions to the music industry.

The course is titled, “Beyoncé Makes History: Black Radical Tradition History, Culture, Theory & Politics through Music,” which will provide an elaborative discussion on her music journey that started with her debut self-titled album in 2013 and is still continuing with the latest album project 2024’s ‘Cowboy Carter‘. The latest album is considered to be a reflection of Black history, intellectual thoughts, and performances.

Students of the University will get to participate in the screenings of ‘Drunk In Love’ and other visual albums by the pop queen that mesmerized the fans. They will be going through discussions and craft playlists that link her discography with her musical predecessors.

The professor of African American Studies and Music, Daphne Brooks emphasized the fact that the current US selection offers a great opportunity to find out how Beyoncé’s contributions have influenced the American Culture.

Brooks said, “The number of breakthroughs and innovations she’s executed and the way she’s interwoven history and politics and really granular engagements with Black cultural life into her performance aesthetics and her utilization of her voice as a portal to think about history and politics — there’s just no one like her.”

This is not the first time that American Universities started full-length courses on pop stars since Taylor Swift has been already a subject for many. The Arizona State University initiated a course on the Psychology of Taylor Swift. There is also a class at Stanford University based on the analysis of ‘All Too Well (10 Minute Version)’ by Taylor Swift. There is an even course at UC Berkeley that helps to determine the success in the business of the pop star.

Clive Davis Institute in New York University launched a course back in 2022 and the central idea was  “Swift’s evolution as a creative music entrepreneur, the legacy of pop and country songwriters, discourses of youth and girlhood, and the politics of race in contemporary popular music.”

The American Pop Industry is a part of global pop culture and the top artists are the biggest contributors who need to be studied with detailed analysis.
