Most individuals these days are spending a significant amount of time on social media platforms and pop idol Billie Eilish also agrees to that. The singer has recently revealed that her addiction to social media is more like having ‘Cigarettes’.

In a recent interview, the “Birds of a Feather” singer talked about her complicated relationship with social media apps which is a bad habit, and to her it is similar to smoking. When she was asked about spending time on X (Formerly known as Twitter), the 22-year-old singer said, “And I went off Instagram and Tiktok a couple of months ago, which was awesome,” more like a detoxification.

However, Eilish also said, “I really love to interact with the fans when I’m on tour,” which is easier when the artist is active on social media. She further explained, “I love seeing all the videos and all the angles. I love seeing how people are feeling and thinking about the show. If I think something looks different, I want to change it.”

The feed of social media works like a wormhole where one can get lost and Eilish explained,  “So I go on the internet to see the videos that I want to see, but then I get sucked in.” And that’s when the “problem” starts. “Then I get all f***ed up, and I’m stuck. So I’ve been back on it, but I am trying to get off. It’s my cigarettes.” She further added, “It’s really a problem.”

When the ‘Chihiro’ singer was asked about her interactions with the fans and Q&A sessions, she said, “Some of it’s awesome and I love it and I cherish it. But again, people make that kind of thing really hard. It’s sad to me. Some people ruin it for the rest of them.”

Previously in an interview with British artist Stormzy, the artist said, “I feel conflicted about it,” and continued, “I don’t always want to tell the world intimate details about my life, I don’t really want people to know everything about me, but at the same time, I want people to be able to feel seen and heard if they’ve experienced the same things I have.”

Clearly, her relationship with social media is complicated in a way. Negative Instagram comments have been ruining her mental health earlier. In an interview with the BBC, the ‘Bad Guy’ singer said, “It’s weird: the cooler the things you get to do are the more people hate you. It’s crazy.”
