On Monday, SZA announced on social media that her long-delayed album, the deluxe album of her 2022 acclaimed album ‘SOS’, ‘Lana’ will be dropped on Friday.
SZA is finally dropping the long-delayed deluxe album. Since her Grammy-winning and acclaimed full-length album ‘SOS’ was released in 2022, the artist has been teasing her fans for a deluxe version of the album. Now the artist has finally officially announced that ‘Lana’, the deluxe version of ‘SOS’ will be released on upcoming Friday. The post features a video of actor Ben Stiller singing along passionately with ‘Drive’, which is presumably the next single while driving a car on a rainy night.
SZA is gearing up for the forthcoming stadium tour with Kendrick Lamar, which presents a perfect opportunity for the artist to release new material. However, the deluxe album was expected ever since ‘SOS’ was released two years ago. The fans are already skeptical of the deluxe arrival although ‘Lana’ seems to be coming for real this time.
The announcement came after the latest round of teasers that began a week ago. It started on the second anniversary of ‘SOS’ with a short video trailer including a snippet of one of the tracks from the album. The video featured SZA in nature at night, pulling down her camo baggy pants by a creek to pee. She then directly looked at the camera as she took out a tissue to wipe herself up. Then the word ‘Lana’ appeared across the screen. The lyrics of the track go “You know we got a real history/That’s the reason I can’t choose me/You know that dick been good to me/You make it hard for me to choose me.”

The artist has been talking about a deluxe edition of ‘SOS’ since the album was released in 2022. In an interview with Variety in August of last year, SZA explained, “[‘Lana’] is outtakes [from ‘SOS’] and new stuff, too — I added a couple of songs. It’s like a whole new project. It’s called ‘Lana’ — my name but, it’s the first tattoo that I ever got, when I was 13. It was 10 bucks a letter and I only had 40, so that that became my nickname for no reason. ‘Lana’ is really just the B-side of SOS.”
Just a month later on September 8th, SZA performed at a free concert at the Brooklyn Navy Yard where the artist sang three songs from ‘Lana’. On the stage, she said, “The deluxe is a whole ‘nother album, it’s seven to 10 songs and it’ll be out this fall.” The songs were then dubbed by her fans ‘Boy From South Detroit,’ ‘DTM’ and ‘Saturn’. ‘Saturn’ was then released as a stand-alone single in February this year. This, needless to say, prompts another wave of false alarms about the deluxe’s release.
However, just a few weeks later, SZA got pretty frustrated by the fans leaking her songs and posted that she would be starting ‘Lana’ from scratch again. She posted “y’all leaked three songs from the deluxe.” SZA continued, “At this point, y’all can keep the throwaways and leaks. I’ll be starting ‘Lana’ from scratch. Do not ask me about it again,” adding a few minutes later, “I’ll round up the leaks y’all already got and u can have those. Seems like a fair deal. ENJOY.” This tweet was deleted a few minutes later and in a subsequent series of tweets, she said the deluxe edition of SOS will now feature “the leaks and outtakes” and “Lana” will be its own album. “Lana deserves more time and music no one’s ever heard before,” she wrote. However, the artist now seems to have reverted to her original plan.
