NBC program’s final pre-Christmas episode was a blast with Hozier returning to Saturday Night Live. The singer-songwriter offered an amazing performance and vacation even better for music lovers. He started with “Too Sweet,” which is one of his hit tracks and is also liked by former US President Barack Obama.

It was quite a Christmassy eve when the Irish music artist decided to perform the Pogues’ holiday classic “Fairytale of New York.” Hozier made his debut at the Saturday Night Live back in 2014 and this is perhaps the 10th anniversary at the SNL that he spent with the fans. The original track by The Pogues was recorded back in 1987 with the amazing vocals of Shane MacGowan and Kirsty MacColl.

However, Saturday Night Live is a television show where some rules are needed to be maintained. The small portion of the lyrics has been changed to “You’re cheap and you’re haggard” in replacement of the slur used in the original song. Either way, the song made sure to amp up the holiday mood.

In 2014, the singer made his breakthrough in the music industry with his hit single “Take Me to Church” and he made sure to perform that in the debut SNL along with “Angel of Small Death and the Codeine Scene.”

“Too Sweet” holds a special place in his musical arsenal which was released through his ‘Unheard’ EP. The single quickly became the top track on the Billboard Hot 100 in April. The track has also ranked at no.10 on the Billboard Hot 100 year-end chart. He is currently expanding his third studio album ‘Unreal Unearth’ with more exclusive projects.

“Too Sweet” was originally made part of the extension project but he decided to keep the song off the album. When asked for a reason, the singer said in an interview, “Maybe it’s the pessimist in me,” and continued, “I was like, ‘People don’t want to hear this stuff, we’ll just put it away.'”

Offering a blend of Irish-American music, Hozier receives warm responses on social media after this performance. One of the fans wrote on X, “Hozier performing ‘Fairytale of New York’ has to be the most Irish thing ever and I’m here for it.”
