On Tuesday, Kelly Clarkson kick-started her year with an amazing cover of one of the biggest hit tracks of 2024. On her talk show that she hosts, she performed a cover of Hozier’s Unheard single, ‘Too Sweet’, during the kellyoke segment of her talk show. The singer looked ravishing in a black dress while being accompanied by My Band Y’all. In her cover, she performed the song with a rocky, distorted vocal filter giving it a more raw vibe than the original composition.
The original song had become one of the trendiest tracks on all the social media platforms and hence a cover was anticipated from someone amazing, and who is a better fit than Kelly Clarkson. ‘I think I’ll take my whiskey neat/My coffee black and my bed at three,’ crooned Clarkson. ‘You’re too sweet for me.’ Clarkson was seen delighted by the track and praising the mystical voice behind it, which is none other than the Irish singer and a recent heart-throb of the female fans, Hozier. She goes on to say, ‘Hozier dropped that song last year, topping the charts worldwide. I love that song so much. He’s a badass. He’s so cool. I love him.’
This cover performance came several weeks after the song was performed by Hozier on Saturday Night Live, very close to the end of 2024. ‘Too Sweet’ became Hozier’s first Hot 100 Number One, and more than a decade after, ‘Take Me To Church’ reached Number 2 on the chart. It seems like the world would have missed all of this due to Hozier’s thoughts and decisions. While giving an interview to a very well-established music magazine, the Irish singer disclosed that he did not even think about including this track on Unreal Unearth. He confessed, ‘Maybe it’s the pessimist in me. I was like, ‘People don’t want to hear this stuff, we’ll just put it away.’ … ‘Too Sweet’ is one of the most lighthearted, fun songs that I’ve ever put out.’
The good news for the world is that the singer changed his mind about this and the world could witness once again the incredible vocals and the creativity in the lyrics portrayed by this singer after ‘Take Me to Church’. On the other hand, the talk show host and the house of outstanding vocal tapestry, Kelly Clarkson was seen ending 2024 with amazing covers of the trendiest tracks like ‘Pink Pony Club’ by the rising superstar Chappell Roan and ‘Please Please Please’ by Sabrina Carpenter. She had also performed several Christmas carols, which included ‘Sweet December’ and ‘Run Run Rudolph’ all December.
