American rapper Lil Wayne is here with the sixth installment of ‘Tha Carter’ series, his upcoming studio album. The last installment of this was released in 2018.
Lil Wayne, the popular American rapper has finally confirmed the release date for his long-awaited album ‘Tha Carter VI’ in a new advertisement for Cetaphil. The rapper may not be headlining the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show, but his music sure knows how to make an announcement and grab the attention of netizens. On Thursday, February 6, the rapper starred in the new advertisement for Cetaphil but it was not his skin routine that shocked the nation but the announcement of his upcoming studio album. The New Orleans icon hinted that the long-awaited new installment of ‘Tha Carter’ series, ‘Tha Carter VI’ is arriving on June 6, this year.
“This campaign made perfect sense to me,” Weezy said to Rolling Stone about starring in the advertisement for Cetaphil “The world knew I was disappointed, but what they didn’t know was that it made me determined to deliver something way bigger.” The ad clip catches Weezy coming into awkward situations. One such situation shows the rapper coming to the rescue of a father who is being introduced to his daughter’s boyfriend, but finding a condom in his wallet. Then the camera catches a kiss-cam sporting event.
In the clip, the rapper planted multiple easter eggs that all hint toward the 6/6 date. Viewers can spot them inscribed on scoreboards and jerseys throughout the advertisement. Then the clip shows the rapper in a recording studio getting asked if he is going to the game, to which he replies, “Nah, this is time sensitive.” A notice on the door of the studio then reveals “Do Not Disturb ‘Til 06-06-25 Carter VI.” This image of the closing scene has gone viral since the advertisement dropped and fans took this as an announcement for Wayne’s upcoming studio album Carter VI. It will be the final installment of the decorated series with the last being released in 2018.
“What attracted me to this project was the chance to flip the script,” Weezy added. “Showing a sensitive side isn’t a weakness—it’s a power. There’s nothing more real than turning those types of moments into a display of strength.” This announcement and advertisement came right after the controversy surrounding the Super Bowl halftime show. The rapper was overlooked for the halftime show slot as it was given to Kendrick Lamar, as this year’s headliner. Shortly after the launch of this advertisement, Wayne’s label Universal Music Group confirmed on media that Weezy’s highly anticipated ‘Tha Carter VI’ will be released on June 6, 2025.
