JENNIE from BLACKPINK has embarked on her solo musical journey at full throttle and the latest music video for ‘Handlebars’ shows the unwavering aura of the artist. Pop star Dua Lipa has also joined the party and the dreamy OMV is currently buzzing among the fans.
The dreamy visuals of the video offer a trippy essence that seems like from another dimension. The music video is directed by BRTHR who has previously worked for Charli XCX and The Weeknd. The OMV dropped on March 10 and already garnered a lot of attention from the fans. The glittery video also offers a quirky essence with a two-wheeled metaphor in a lyrical approach and it goes without saying that both of the singers have done a great job.
With lines like, “I trip and fall in love/ Just like a Tuesday drunk/ I always go all in, all in, all in/ Over the handlebars/ Hitting the ground so hard,” it seems like Jennie is on a motorcycle ride of love that is often too thrilling and risky. The laid-back R&B style of the song sounds quite great both in Jennie and Dua’s voices.
The choice of outfits with a neon landscape fits perfectly while both of the singers share screen together. Jennie could be often seen lying on a heart-shaped spider’s web, a spinning bed which offer an experience of tripping.
As Dua appears, she hits the song with the lines like, “I wonder what you’re doing for tonight and forever/ I could be the rest of your life or whatever/ My lips and your lips, we could press them together,” both women shows an empowering energy while they proceed with the chorus. The colorful use of flashing lights can sometimes make it feel like futuristic with a cyberpunk drip. The music video is creatively crafted and offers artistic taste.
“Handlebars” offers the perfect preview of Jennie’s debut solo LP called ‘Ruby’ which features 15 brand new tracks. This album features a lot of international collaboration between the K-pop artist and the American artists namely Doechii, FKJ, Childish Gambino, Kali Uchis, and Dominic Fike. Perhaps this album is going to be this year’s greatest collaborative project.
