DMR: ‘Final Ending’ is finally released. How are you feeling about the response?

Cody: It feels so great to finally get this track out. I came up with the verse riff a few years ago and eventually turned it into a complete song early last year when I shared that I was working on new music, so it’s been a long time waiting for this track to get out, and now people get to finally hear it and I’ve had nothing but positive feedback from listeners so far. So I’m happy that people are enjoying it and I think they’re really going to like what this next album has to offer.

DMR: Is this song a personal reflection of yours? Tell us more about the concept.

Cody: This song is a self-reflection of someone dealing with some sort of struggle that they are trying to overcome, and it brings that struggle to a place where they realize that with hope and strength they can work through it or move past it and still have a happier outcome in the end. I think a lot of people can relate to this song who battle with things like a past trauma or an addiction where in their case they feel they must overcome their never-ending struggle to feel better in the end. In my case I’ve battled constantly with low self-esteem, anxiety, and depression in my past, sometimes causing me to feel hopeless at times, but with lots of hope and confidence, sometimes I have to try not to think this way and realize I still have a long way to go and in the very end I can still overcome these things and have a better outlook on my life and where it’s going. That’s what this song is all about and I hope some can find the strength and determination in this song to try to help them feel better about themselves. And for those not really dealing with anything weighing them down then here’s something for you to headbang to.

DMR: How did you find Marko Duplisak and Masoud Moghadarri for this project?

Cody: Most of the featured artists on my tracks I find online after I complete the instrumental through a few different sites. I found Marko through a site called Airgigs that allows you to hire other artists. I was looking for someone who had a voice close to what resonated with the vocals I had in my head for the track, and he was the right fit. Masoud Moghadarri I found on Fiverr when I was looking for a guy to mix and master the tracks on the upcoming album, and he just so happened to have the ability to recreate the original drum track in a way that best suited the music, so now I’ve pretty much recruited him as not only my official mixing engineer for the album but he also will be helping with the drums & bass as well. So that’s a bonus.

DMR: Is this appearing in any upcoming album that is released this year?

Cody: I actually am planning on releasing a new track off the album every few months leading up to the eventual release, which probably won’t be out this year. It’ll be worth the wait though. I plan to have a video done for every track on the album, and turn them all into a film when it’s done.

DMR: How did you develop your passion for music?

Cody: I used to sing a lot when I was a kid, then eventually I started listening to the radio and hearing music from my favorite artists and buying all their albums. Then one day I got a guitar for my thirteenth birthday and I was excited to learn how to play. Now 20 years later here I am, still playing.

DMR: Was rock and metal your first choice? Do you like other genres too?

Cody: Absolutely. Hard rock and alternative metal, more specifically, have always seemed to resonate with me more than most other genres do. I’ve got a natural feeling of being more drawn to those sub genres. Although I do like other genres as well and appreciate all types of music.

DMR: Since you collaborate with other artists, is there anyone you desire to work with?

Cody: Yes. It’s a bit of a long shot, but I would absolutely love to have an album one day with all my favorite vocalists fronting the tracks. Some names that come to mind are James Hetfield of Metallica, Matt Tuck of Bullet For My Valentine, David Draimen of Disturbed, Andy Sixx of Black Veil Brides, Amy Lee of Evanescence, and much much more. I also think it would be cool to do a more experimental album and feature artists that you don’t normally hear over hard rock or alternative metal tracks, like Miley Cyrus or Eminem. It would be interesting to hear what they could do with one of my tracks.

DMR: Solo metal acts are very rare. Do you wish to form a band in the coming days?

Cody: I’m very open to the idea of being in a band. I’ve actually been in a few bands that were in the very early stages of really making much progress, and they never worked out for various reasons, whether it’s transportation, or creative differences, or something else. I’m still very open to being part of a band again though. It’s nice when you’re able to see and hear the other artists present with you when performing music.

DMR: What are your views on the modern music industry?

Cody: A lot has changed in how people listen to music. Nowadays everything’s turned to digital streaming services, and obviously not as many people buy CDs anymore. Personally I still do because I love having the physical copy of an album with the lyric booklet, the artwork, and the credits right there that I can hold in my hand. It feels like a whole different experience vs. streaming everything online. But streaming is nice too when I’m just listening on my phone or want a variety of music from different artists.

DMR: Other than your love for guitars, what instruments do you like to play?

Cody: Actually before I got my first guitar I originally wanted a drum set. I always thought it would be fun to own one. Sometimes I’ll have the opportunity to jam on someone’s set and I even find myself finger drumming to the music I listen to a lot. I also like to sing and I’ve had some fun playing around with a few keyboards.

DMR: Do you think the golden era of rock and metal still prevails?

Cody: I think it will always prevail. There’s always bands from every year and generation that are just as big as the ones that came before them, and some of them are the same bands still going strong. Like Metallica for example. And then we’ve got the 2000’s bands like Linkin Park that are just as big as they were back then. It’s amazing how there’s always a new band that keeps rock and metal alive, and it really never dies.

DMR: What would you like to say to your fans and listeners?

Cody: Well first off I want to thank all my followers for the amazing feedback and response to the music I’ve put out so far, and the push to keep on going from friends and family keeps me feeling motivated to give you all some more tunes. So, tune in because much more new music is on the way!
