International rock icons Duran Duran were back in Palm Springs by popular demand (Thursday, September 5) to perform at ‘The Show’ at Agua Caliente Resort Casino Spa.
The British hit super-group rocked through a 90-minute set to a pack of hungry fans who could not get enough of the 80s idols.
One recognizable face in the audience was a fellow expat — entertainment personality, Sean Borg who was celebrating his 51st birthday the same night
Sean who told reporters at the event he has been a ‘massive fan of Duran Duran’ since the early eighties. He became friends with members of the band — including drummer Roger Taylor and keyboardist Nick Rhodes (pictured), after getting to know them in the mid-nineties.
The former TMZ personality-turned-Trivago guy cut a cool figure as he arrived at Agua Caliente, dressed in high-end casual, wearing a trendy John Varvatos camouflage-style jacket, ripped jeans, with a pair of cool “Ace GG Supreme” (Gucci) sneakers with gold bumblebees, and a stylish “GG” Gucci belt to complete his look.
Sean told Verna Magazine, backstage: “I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve seen Duran Duran perform live. So I was delighted to get a surprise text from my friend Roger (Taylor) on the morning of my birthday, reminding me I had tickets waiting for me at the box office.
“I’ve loved them since Planet Earth, and I still can’t get enough of Girls on Film and Wild Boys. Their music never gets old for me.”
“I pinch myself sometimes when I’m watching them play because I know them well now and have done for many years. But I guess they will always be my pop-idols,” he said.
This isn’t the first time Duran Duran booked this venue on their tour. The last time they did it followed a sold-out performance at the gigantic Hollywood Bowl.
The “paper Gods” brought the perfect mix of new songs and their legendary hits from the 80s and 90s, offering fans a 90-minute set in an arena-style stage setting but with an intimate theater vibe giving big-name acts like Duran Duran an opportunity to connect to their fans in an unprecedented and special experience.
The music legends formed in Birmingham (UK) in 1978. The band was one of the most successful acts of the 1980s, but by the end of the decade, music style changes challenged the bands staying power, however, they had a huge resurgence in the early 1990s with hits Come Undone and Ordinary World.
Sean attended the ‘Paper Gods’ event with skincare celebrity Sabastian Reich. The pair danced the night away at the side of the stage to well-known hits Rio, The Reflex and Notorious.
