Brian Field, an award-winning composer, shares his new album ‘Vocal Works’ that showcases his diverse and engaging musical style.
The American composer Brian Field has recently released a compilation of his vocal music aptly titled ‘Vocal Works’. This exceptional album, his sixth so far, contains thirteen tracks featuring various artists and a multiplicity of styles that are as engaging as they are diverse.
The album opens with gospel-infused choral music, moves to lush musical landscapes with the South American flare of Pablo Neruda’s poetry for tenor and orchestra, and continues on with a satirical, almost Broadway-like spotlight on the political scene in the United States. Field then takes us on a journey—again with orchestra and voice—but this time a delicate, touching lullaby featuring soprano. We thereafter return to a gospel-styled work that Field both composed and wrote the text for, and finally conclude the compilation with a series of stark, expressionistic pieces based upon the poetry of E.E. Cummings for baritone and piano, chilling in its effect.
Brian Field began his musical career at an early age, beginning to compose seriously at sixteen, and went on to earn advanced degrees in music from the Juilliard School and Columbia University. Having written music for the concert hall, stage and television, Field is clearly masterful across a wide variety of styles and types of musical composition which is demonstrated by the dozens of awards he has won for his work. ‘Vocal Works’ is an indication of this stylistic diversity that keeps the listener engaged throughout the journey.
Some of Brian Field’s other successful works include ‘A Christmas Carol’, ‘Shiva Tandava’, ‘Kaleidoscope’, ‘Senex Puerum Portabat’ – all of which are available on Spotify, SoundCloud, Apple Music, and YouTube. Follow him on Facebook for more updates on his upcoming projects.
