The 2021 Grammy Awards is pushed back to March due to the deteriorating situation of COVID – 19. GRAMMY Awards Executive Producer Ben Winston, CBS Executive Vice President Jack Sussman, and Recording Academy Chair & Interim President/CEO Harvey Mason Jr. have announced in a joint statement that the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards will be broadcasted on 14th March. The sudden postponement occurred due to the worsening covid situation in Los Angeles. The hospital services in LA are overwhelmed with the increasing number of affected patients and the ICU’s have reached their capacity.
The local government and State has declared new guidance and regulations to handle the situation. This is the prime reason to postpone the highly anticipated award ceremony. The vice president and producers said that nothing is more important to them than the health of the staff, artists, and the musical community who have been working relentlessly for the ceremony. The administration has also thanked the community for their hard work, understanding, and patience which is very much needed in these unprecedented times. They have thanked the nominees for their willingness to work in the future.
The annual award ceremony was initially scheduled to be held on 31st January of this year. The nominations have been already announced earlier. Beyonce is leading this year’s nominees with nine nods. The list is followed by Dua Lipa, Roddy Ricch, and Taylor Swift with six nods. The list continues with Megan Thee Stallion, Billie Eilish, DaBaby, Phoebe Bridgers, and Justin Bieber with four. Comedian Trevor Noah was set to host the show, however; it is unclear now whether he will participate in this year’s ceremony. According to AFP news agency, the organization behind the award show said earlier that this year’s Grammy will be mostly virtual due to extended regulations of COVID- 19. But no further details have been revealed yet. Many major award ceremonies like the Emmys and the Latin Grammys had to move to the online platform since the pandemic hit the United States last year. Meanwhile, the Oscars are due to take place on 25th April, two months later than its scheduled time.
