An immediate outrage was drawn at the premiere of the American Idol Season 19 with the audition of Claudia Conway in February. Pundits as well as viewers were livid and many of them have accused the show as a vulnerable young girl is exploited along with her ‘family drama’ for the sake of ratings. The show was also complicit and helped Claudia Conway. She is a former senior counselor from the White House and allegedly the abusive mother of Claudia. They have tried to rehabilitate her public image in the post Trump period.
Just a couple of days after the season premiere that has seen much controversy, it has been reported by the Page Six of New York Post that this intense criticism has blindsided the ABC executives. They have already moved into crisis mode and have been rethinking the option to position Kellyanne and Claudia along with promotion. They have been putting in huge efforts to give Claudia enough footage in every promo. But as of now, they have put a check on their focus. They do not want to make a big deal out of her being part of the show and puts the focus on all the other contestants as well. A request for comment was made by Yahoo Entertainment but the representative of American Idol did not respond to it.
Season 19 of the Hollywood Week kicked off this Sunday and it seems that the participation by Claudia is downplayed by the editors from ABC. Footages of the teasers are shown early in the season that has shown Claudia working with Bobby Bones, the mentor. Bobby has spoken to TV insider that in Hollywood, he had a great interaction with Claudia. This Sunday, Claudia showed up in the second hour of the episode but she was part of the final edit. Both Claudia and Kellyanne had shared a considerable amount of screen time. A backlash was reignited, as ‘Girl On Fire’, the empowerments anthem by Alicia Keys was played in Dolby Theatre.
The Hollywood Week performance on day one by Claudia was great and prompted the judges to cast their votes. Ryan Seacrest, the host also spoke in her favor. He said that it was bold on her part to handle the song. He also indicated at mentoring session done by Bobby Bones as Claudia competed in the Genre Challenge on Sunday in the pop category. Claudia had a fiercely competitive season and viewers had a great time in Hollywood.
