Apple has announced to release lossless as well as versions of thousands of the songs in Spatial Audio support in May. It was after a group of users reached out to Apple on Twitter that the company confirmed the availability of lossless audio streaming and Spatial Audio with support for Dolby Atmos in India shortly. It was last week when both the lossless audio and the Spatial audio landed on Apple Music soon after this year’s WWDC keynote. But unfortunately, the exclusive features didn’t end up in India. This means that the Indian listeners have to wait for a little while longer!
It was last month when Apple had announced that it would in a little while include the lossless audio streaming and the Spatial Audio with support for Dolby Atmos to its Apple Music subscription at no additional charge. The Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos is a new format that will let the users listen to selected tracks with exclusive surround sound and 3D audio effects via iPads, iPhones, AirPods, and HomePods.
Later this year, the Spatial Audio is set to come to Apple TV as well. Apple is also bringing the Spatial Audio experience to its video conferencing app, FaceTime.
The lossless audio streaming feature has also been introduced in Apple Music. The complete Apple Music catalog comprises 75 million songs that will also support the lossless audio. The lossless tier starts at the CD quality which is 16 bit at 44.1 kHz and will go up to 24 bit at 192 kHz. But for this to happen, the user needs to use an external USB digital-to-analog converter.
The Apple Music Subscribers can enable the new lossless audio feature under the Settings options then Music, and finally Audio Quality.
Both the features shall now come as a part of the standard Apple Music subscription and the move to introduce Spatial Audio experience to Apple Music is a part of the plan to expand the Apple ecosystem.
The global tech establishment is facing tough competition from Amazon Music and Spotify in the music streaming category and hence, such a move.
