The current state of the U.S. presidential administration imposes constant threats on the LGBTQ+ community. Amidst this, GLAAD decided to honor and celebrate artists of the same community with the 2025 GLAAD Media Awards on Thursday, March 27. The event was held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles and it honored stars and celebrities across entertainment industries. Some of the musical stars who attended the event included Lil Nas X, Maren Morris, David Archuleta, Tanner Adell, Jake Wesley Rogers, and more. The starry night did not end with just these in attendance, Cynthia Erivo, Doechii, Sophia Bush, Dylan Mulvaney, Lena Waithe, Nava Mau, etc, also attended the prestigious night.

Cynthia Erivo attended the night serving as the guest of honor. The organization’s Stephen F. Kolzak Award honored Erivo for her advocacy and efforts in increasing the representation of queer individuals in the entertainment industry. “The real work is making the ground we leave in our wake level enough for the next person who finds their way to the path we have made,” the Wicked star said in her speech. “For the person who is searching and searching and has not found it yet. This room is full of people who can and will … be lanterns to light up your journey and your path on your way to showing the world who you are.”

On the other hand, Doechii received the award for outstanding music artist. The rap superstar used her stage to call out anti-LGBTQ discrimination in the country, especially from the White House. “[Acceptance, inclusivity and empowerment] are the things I strongly believe in and advocate for and that continue to propel me forward — especially now that hard-won cultural change and rights for transgender people and the LGBTQ community have been threatened,” the ‘What It Is’ rapper said. “And I am disgusted. Disgusted. But I want to say that we are here and we are not going anywhere.”
