Rumors have it that is it too late now for the Grammys to apologize.
Justin Bieber has denied attending the 2021 Grammys on Sunday because he is not performing at this year’s show, Page Six confirmed. The ‘Hold On’ crooner’s decision to skip out the music’s one of the biggest night also comes in after Bieber, who has been nominated for four awards this weekend, called out the Recording Academy for nominating his album ‘Changes’ in a pop category instead of classifying it under the R&B as had been intended.
Following the nomination announcement, Justin took to his Instagram handle and said that he is flattered to be acknowledged and appreciated for his artistry. With that, he also added on how meticulous and intentional he is about his music. And, with that being said, he is set out to make an R&B album, he wrote. ‘Changes’ is an R&B album but it has not been acknowledged as an R&B album, which seems very strange to him.
The Recording Academy didn’t immediately get back to Page Six’s request for comment.
Bieber who is 27, is now up for the Best Pop Solo Performance (‘Yummy’), Best Pop Duo/ Group Performance ( ‘Intentions’, featuring Quavo), Best Pop Vocal Album, and Best Country Duo/ Group Performance (for his feature on Dan + Shay’s ‘10000 Hours’).
The Holy singer further said that the Recording Academy’s weird decision came as a major disappointment as it was his dream to make a project that would embody that sound. But for this not to be put into that category feels weird, considering from the chords to the melodies to the vocal style, and down to the hip-hop drums that were chosen, it is undeniably and unmistakably an R&B album, Bieber added.
However, Bieber later clarified that he is eternally grateful for the recognition and thanked those who have fought for him to even have any nominations.
