Lady Gaga finally opens up about why she was silent for all these years when people misgendered her or called her a man. The ‘Poker Face’ singer was recently featured in the second episode of ‘What’s Next? The Future With Bill Gates’. Here she opened up about why she stayed silent on rumors claiming she was actually a man. These rumors have been on the side of her entire fame journey. Earlier in Gaga’s career, these headlines were all around, but Gaga chose not to respond or even address them anytime, until now.
When asked about the rumors in the 2011 interview, she famously replied to CNN, “Why waste my time on that? My fans don’t care, and neither do I.” This unapologetic behavior captures Gaga’s fearless approach to fame. Now in an interview with Bill Gates, Gaga mentioned how she “didn’t feel like a victim” amid the misgendering and claims about her being a man. Therefore, she did not need to address the rumors until after all these years, she finally cleared the air on the Netflix show, which premiered last Wednesday.
“The reason I didn’t answer the question was because I didn’t feel like a victim with that lie,” Gaga said to Bill Gates in his new series. “But I thought about, what about a kid that’s being accused of that, that would think that a public figure like me would feel shame,” the ‘Bad Romance ‘ singer continued. The singer recalls in the interview when such claims and frequently asked questions in the press interviews plagued her. It was about edited and doctored pictures on the internet, which fueled the rumors of Lady Gaga being a man. In 2011, Gaga told CNN, “Why the hell am I going to waste my time and give a press release about whether or not I have a penis? My fans don’t care and neither do I.”
On the Gates’ show, Gaga also recalls trying to change the narrative in the world. “I’ve been in situations where fixing a rumor was not in the best interest of the well-being of other people,” the 38-year-old popstar acknowledged dealing with “the world’s most pressing issues.” “ I tried to be thought-provoking and disruptive in another way. I tried to use the misinformation to create another disruptive point,” she added. Furthermore, Gaga also recalled how she has had a long history of misinformation. “I’ve been used to lies being printed about me since I was 20 years old. I’m a performer. I think it’s kind of funny.”
The clip from the ‘What’s Next? The Future With Bill Gates’ show quickly went viral on the internet where fans were seen praising the singer and her approach to handling such controversies. They also noted the singer’s honesty and her thoughtful actions. “And that’s why Gaga is MOTHERRRR,” one user commented on a social media platform. “An epitome of elegance, honesty, stardom, and majesty,” said another user. “Truthfully, her level of eloquence, long-term strategy, empathy, and outright bravery is remarkable,” added a third. “I love how intelligent, demure and mindful Lady Gaga is when she talks about defending LGBTQ+ rights & those stupid press interviews about her being a transgender to Bill Gates in his “What’s Next? The Future’ Netflix documentary,” another comment read.
