Ed Sheeran is an artist who looks most charming with an acoustic guitar. In his 2019’s No. 6 Collaborations Project, the singer had explored hip-hop and dancehall, and now he has taken on a post-pandemic tune that is not of any danger but quite underwhelming. It seems that the pop star has framed everything quite predictably.
‘Bad Habits’ is the latest music video that throws in certain loneliness, regret, and empty conversations. The whole thing settles for mediocre, which is not Ed Sheeran’s style. The song is the UK pop star’s big return this year and has received mixed views from the crowd. However, the main focus of the video is that the pop icon has tried his best to reinvent himself. He has shown himself to be someone who is opposite to the acoustic singer-songwriter and has taken on to something different. Sheeran sports a pink suit, wear fangs, and he and his team of punkish characters set up to do some mischief while walking down the lane.
There’s a point when the singer hands over a smiley face balloon to a little vampire girl and then after a couple of seconds, he comes across a clean-shaven version of himself who then quickly collapses in his arms. His acoustic guitar riffs go lower in the mix and the song is quite synth-heavy and adorned with catchy house beats. Overall the song gives out strong hints of 80s dance-pop sessions and to some, the track gives the impression of Ed Sheeran being a truly pop-savvy star.
Lyrically, the song is generic and at first, the voice of the pop sensation sounds unrecognizable. With no such relation to his real-life experience, the track sounds fine and what exactly makes it win the hearts is when Sheeran goes ‘hoo-ooh. Hoo-ooooooh’ with his amazing vocal hook taking over space.
But apart from all of this, Ed Sheeran’s look as a vampire has been the center of discussion and also an attraction. He has injected quite a lot of twists and personal changes to make the subject stand out and has once again proved that he is always up for risk-taking or innovation!
The strongest aspect of ‘Bad Habits’ is lyricism. Even though the theme is not so relatable but the songwriting certainly is. After all, we all have bad habits that don’t end up well. And, working to curb them to get to a better place is always the right thing to do and Ed Sheeran performs it stunningly. The track cultivates a pop-dance vibe that’s quite appealing and respectable.
What more? Even with all the rumors, ‘Bad Habits’ is ready to become a major global hit as Ed Sheeran is destined to live up to his hype. There’s no doubt that the hot single will climb up to the top of all charts as Sheeran’s songs have a clear intention to get plugged into someone’s mind, even if you don’t want them to. It has already created a lot of buzz and thankfully for all the right reasons.
