RIP Diego Armando Maradona- take a look at the football legend’s short spanned music career

Diego Armando Maradona

Diego Armando Maradona as not known to many is more than just a football legend. The Argentine soccer idol took his last breath on November 25 at the age of 60.

The soccer star used to dab frequently with music and was in close touch with the recording industry. Back in 2001, Jorge Ferradas, who presently manages Camilo, Lali, and Nathy Peluso amongst many others used to be an executive in Sony Argentina amidst the country’s financial crisis.

But somehow soccer felt foolproof and therefore the label bought the exclusive rights to the recordings that Maradona had done for his memoir Yo Soy El Diego and had released them as a double CD titled Soy El Diego De La Gente (I Am the People’s Diego).

Maradona’s controversial goal that he had scored in Argentina vs. England 1986 World Cup match inspired the Argentine singer Rodrigo’s song named La Mano de Dios (Homenaje a Diego Maradona). Moreover, the winner of the World Cup had also recorded Querida Amiga with Argentine duo Pimpinela and El Sueno del Pibe, which was a 1943 tango penned by Juan Puey and Reinaldo Yiso.

At the moment, Ferradas laughs off the incident saying that even though it had been a publishing success, but that didn’t necessarily translate into record sales. He also said that they had reportedly done an album presentation and everything done was worthwhile. He added that the soccer legend was pure art in whatever he did. Being a soccer player as well as a fan himself, he stated that his roots belong to Argentina, he resides in the U.S. and he received the news while he is in Spain. And, here presently, so far from his home, someone just said that they don’t care about what he did with his life and that he only cares what he did with his.

Born on October 30, 1960, Maradona had made his debut in Buenos Aires at the age of 15 and then went ahead to lead Argentina’s national team to a glorious victory in the 1986 World Cup. Overall, the football legend has played 91 games for his country’s national team and had also played for Barcelona at club level as Napoli.

Now, speaking of his music career, Maradona had performed onstage at the Teatro Gran Rex along with Spanish star Joaquin Sabina to sing Y Nos Dieron Las Diez. In the year 2000, Sabina, who was a zealous fan of Maradona and also a friend, was inspired to pen down a poem titled Mano de Dios meaning The Hand of God as a tribute to Maradona’s controversial goal.

On November 25, the football legend left for his heavenly abode as he died of a heart attack 14 days after being released from the hospital, where he underwent brain surgery.

Post the news of Maradona’s death was aired; J Balvin, Ricardo Montaner, Maluma, Fito Paez, and DJ Snake amongst many other names took to social media to pay tribute and also to remember their idol, and also one of the greatest soccer players of all time.
