The Beatles are an era of music history. They enriched the whole world of music with their soulful and serene songs, creating worldwide infatuation. Their lucid lyrics have offered such freshness that can consume awareness. Their songs are still relevant even after so many years. Each song has expressive words that are dreamy but truthful. The sweet paradox of lyricism creates a parallel universe of music. The Beatles have the same effects on their listeners as the nightingale had on John Keats. It is safe to say that they are the nightingale for the whole world. They created magic just by simple words like ‘take a sad song and make it better’, causing goosebumps. They were the generation that prevailed through the era of rock and roll to pop. They were the inspiration for young people to pursue their passion. They were the reason behind many artists.
Band Formation
Initially, John Lennon formed a band with the name ‘Quarrymen’ from his name of school ‘Quarry Bank High School. In the year 1957 sixteen years old Lennon met fifteen years old Paul McCartney who joined him as a rhythm guitarist. George Harrison was already a friend of McCartney and was invited over in February 1958 to watch the band perform. Later on, George auditioned to join the band. Then they named the group ‘The silver Beatles’ and later on they stick to ‘The Beatles’. And the iconic band was formed in 1960, in Liverpool England. In 1961 Brian Epstein, the fifth Beatle, then a record store manager, saw the band performing. Epstein was thoroughly convinced by the potential of these singers. Soon enough major music companies of Britain were deluged with letters and tapes with their recordings of the band. In 1962 Ringo Starr accepted Lennon’s offer and the iconic squad performed on 18th August 1962.
Beatles in India
In February 1968 The Beatles visited Rishikesh, India. The visit was proposed by George Harrison. They took a training course on Transcendental Meditation at the ashram of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. During this period Lennon, McCartney, Harrison wrote many songs and Starr finish his first. In August 1967 Brian Epstein, the fifth Beatle, their friend, and manager, was found dead in his London home. The emotional baggage caused by this incident was the major reason for their visit to India. In the next year 1969, after the tense recording sessions of ‘Abbey Road,’ Lennon left without informing. Soon enough in 1970, the band broke up. This disruption caused a worldwide heartbreak when McCartney quits the band. This was the hardest time for the leading to a tragedy, an unrecoverable loss that made the whole world shuttered, the murder of the iconic John Lennon.
Musical algorithm
In 1963 their first album was released, ‘Please Please Me’ after that there was no stopping each year they came up with another album. In 1965 they released the album ‘Help!’ which came out with Paul’s single, a Pop Ballad ‘Yesterday’. By the next year, 1966 The Beatles were labeled as more popular than god. And their worldwide popularity, the craze was so infectious that their songs were (and still are) no less than psalm, hummed across the planet as hymns. The journey met an unpleasant end in 1970 and The Beatles went on their several paths. And the numerous attempts of bringing them together were futile. The band performed together in 1994 after seventeen years. Soon enough they released three anthologies along with some of Lennon’s demos of ‘Free as a Bird’, ‘Real Love’. George, Paul, and Ringo appeared in the documentary. They released interviews of Lennon, from the archive. The documentaries were broadcast on ABC television in 1995.
Their footprints
The tough truth is that the nostalgic squad never came back together though. But the contribution they made as musicians were beyond words. The humongous cultural growth that they have provided has so many layers of self-realization. From the statue of them in Liverpool to the crossing of Abbey Road they are present, even in this very moment. The hills of Rishikesh where they meditated for days, must be still recovering from ‘ob-la-di, ob-la-da. Their social messages were also loud and clear. They spoke for women’s liberation, gay liberation, environmentalism. The Beatles showed the world that their impactful gesture on social causes can be this stylish. And vice versa their style could have such a deep impact on cultural revelation. As a great Mikel Gilmore referred ‘how a pop vision might be forged into an unimpeachable consensus. Among the many documentaries in 2021 the star director and producer Peter Jackson, has made a musical documentary series on them. A homage to this historic band, evoking the nostalgia that clasped with each of them.
