MTV‘s Video Music Awards returned to the stage this year and was held on September 12 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. There were various magical moments that the audience on stage and back at home got to witness in the evening including Shakira winning the Video Vanguard Award, a surprise reunion of NSYNC and its five members, and Taylor Swift yet again making history. The Tuesday broadcast of the show most definitely celebrated artists from all around the globe. Here is the complete winner list of 2023’s MTV VMAs.

Video of the Year:

 The first and most important category of the evening was the award for ‘Video of the Year’ 2023. ‘Attention’ by Doja Cat, ‘Flowers’ by Miley Cyrus, ‘Super Freaky Girl’ by Nicki Minaj, ‘vampire’ by Olivia Rodrigo, ‘Unholy’ by Sam Smith and Kim Petras, ‘Kill Bill’ by SZA, and ‘Anti-Hero’ by Taylor Swift were nominated in this category, reflecting on the most impactful, most popular and most creative video songs of the last year. The win was secured by Taylor Swift for her lead single ‘Anti-Hero’ from her tenth studio album ‘Midnights’.

Artist of the Year:

 The 2023 nomination list included artists like Beyoncé, Doja Cat, KAROL G, Nicki Minaj, Shakira, and Taylor Swift. This category was once again won by Taylor Swift. She made history on this night she made history once again by winning 9 VMAs in one night. So rightfully, after a massively successful year, Swift is the most appropriate candidate for this category.

Song of the Year:

 This category honors the most popular, impactful, and trendy track of the past year which is not only impressive with sound productions but also with its visuals. The nominations of this year in this category of ‘Song of the Year’ included ‘Flowers’ by Miley Cyrus, ‘vampire’, by Olivia Rodrigo, ‘Calm Down’, by Rema and Selena Gomez, ‘Unholy’ by Sam Smith, and KimPetras, ‘Bad Habit’ by Steve Lacy, ‘Kill Bill’ by SZA and ‘Anti-Hero’ by Taylor Swift. The moon man in this category went to ‘Anti-Hero’ by Taylor Swift.

Best New Artist:

 This category is for honoring new talents that have made a significant impression on the audience and the industry. The 2023 Best New Artist category’s nominations comprised GloRilla, Ice Spice, Peso Pluma, PinkPantheress, Kaliii, and Reneé Rapp, and the winner of the night was Ice Spice.

 

Push Performance of the Year:

 This year, the nominees were, Saucy Santana for “Booty”, Stephen Sanchez for “Until I Found You”, JVKE for “golden hour”, Flo Milli for “Conceited”, Reneé Rapp for “Colorado”, Sam Ryder for “All the Way Over”, Armani White for “GOATED”, FLETCHER for “Becky’s So Hot”, TOMORROW X TOGETHER for “Sugar Rush Ride”, Ice Spice for “Princess Diana”, FLO for “Losing You”, and Lauren Spencer Smith for “That Part”. The winner was TOMORROW X TOGETHER for “Sugar Rush Ride”.

 

Best Collaboration:

 This category had a total of 6 nominations which included ‘I’m Good (Blue)’ by David Guetta and BebeRexha, ‘I Like You (A Happier Song)’ by Post Malone and Doja Cat, ‘Gotta Move On’ by

Diddy ft. Bryson Tiller, Ashanti, Yung Miami, ‘TQG’, by KAROL G and Shakira, ‘Creepin’ (Remix)’ by Metro Boomin with the Weeknd, 21 Savage, and Diddy, and ‘Calm Down’ by Rema and Selena Gomez. The winner in this category was ‘TQG’, by KAROL G and Shakira.

 

Best Pop:

 This category honors the most impressive pop tracks and videos from the past year and this year had nominations that included ‘Swine’ by Demi Lovato, ‘Dance the Night (From Barbie The Album)’ by DuaLipa, ‘Eyes Closed’ by Ed Sheeran, ‘Flowers’ by Miley Cyrus, ‘vampire’ by Olivia Rodrigo, ‘TRUSTFALL’ by P!NK , and ‘Anti-Hero’ by Taylor Swift. The Moon man went to Taylor Swift for ‘Anti-Hero’.

 

Best Hip-Hop:

 This year in the ‘Best Hip-Hop’ category there were a total of 8 nominations. The list included Diddy ft. Bryson Tiller, Ashanti, Yung Miami – “Gotta Move On”, DJ Khaled ft. Drake & Lil Baby – “STAYING ALIVE”, GloRilla&Cardi B – “Tomorrow 2”, Lil Uzi Vert – “Just Wanna Rock”, Lil Wayne ft. Swizz Beatz & DMX – “Kant Nobody”, Metro Boomin ft. Future – “Superhero (Heroes & Villains)”, and Nicki Minaj – “Super Freaky Girl” and the winner was Nicki Minaj for ‘Super Freaky Girl’.

Best R&B:

 To honor the previous year’s best R&B music and artist, this year’s nominations included, ‘Stay’ by Alicia Keys ft. Lucky Daye, ‘How Does It Feel’ by Chlöe ft. Chris Brown, ‘Creepin’ (Remix)’ by Metro Boomin with The Weeknd, 21 Savage, and Diddy, ‘Shirt’ by SZA, ‘Favorite Song’ by Toosii, and ‘Love In The Way’ by Yung Bleu & Nicki Minaj. The winner in this category was SZA for ‘Shirt’.

 

Best Alternative:

 This category honors the most impactful Alternative artists from the past year which included the nominations of ‘EDGING’ by blink-182, ‘the film’ by boygenius, ‘Hold Me Like A Grudge’ by Fall Out Boy, ‘Candy Necklace’ by Lana Del Rey ft. Jon Batiste, ‘This Is Why’ by Paramore, and ‘Stuck’ by Thirty Seconds To Mars. The winner in this category was Lana Del Rey ft. Jon Batiste – “Candy Necklace”.

 

Group of the Year:

 In this category, the nominees were BLACKPINK, FIFTY FIFTY, FLO, Jonas Brothers, Måneskin,

NewJeans, SEVENTEEN, and TOMORROW X TOGETHER. The winner of this year’s Group of the Year is BLACKPINK.

 

Album of the Year:

 This is another heavy-weight category that included nominees like Beyoncé for ‘Renaissance’, Drake & 21 Savage for ‘Her Loss’, Metro Boomin for ‘Heroes & Villains’, Miley Cyrus for ‘Endless Summer Vacation’, SZA for ‘SOS’, and Taylor Swift for ‘Midnights’. The win was once again secured by Taylor Swift for ‘Midnights’.

 

Song of the Summer:

 This was by far the most nominated category of this year with a total of 16 nominations! The nominees in this category are – Beyoncé – “Cuff It”, Billie Eilish – “What Was I Made For?  This category had nominations of Ayra Starr – “Rush”, Burna Boy – “It’s Plenty”, Davido ft. Musa Keys – “UNAVAILABLE”, Fireboy DML &Asake – ”Bandana”, Libianca – “People”, Rema& Selena Gomez – “Calm Down”, and Wizkid ft. Ayra Starr– “2 Sugar” which was won by Rema& Selena Gomez for ‘Calm Down’.

 

Best K-Pop:

 This category had a total of 6 nominations which included ‘Girls’ by aespa, ‘Pink Venom’ by BLACKPINK, ‘Cupid’ by FIFTY FIFTY, ‘Super’ by SEVENTEEN, ‘S-Class’ by Stray Kids, and ‘Sugar Rush Ride’ by TOMORROW X TOGETHER and the award went to ‘S-Class’ by Stray Kids.

 

Best Latin:

 The nominees in this category were Anitta – “Funk Rave”, Bad Bunny – “WHERE SHE GOES”,
