Since the nomination list for Grammy came out last September everyone was curious about the name Olivia Rodrigo. And as she won 3 Grammys at an age of 19, everyone is interested in the fact how she got this famous within such a short time. And everyone is astonished by the unbelievable success of her life, and what made her the star that she is today.

Who is Olivia Rodrigo?

She was mostly known for her portrayal of the role of Nini Salazar-Roberts in the Disney Plus series ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’ and another Disney Plus series ‘Bizaardvark’. But since she started making songs that speak of the various emotions, associated with adolescence love and breakup, and the insecurity of that age. Her debut song ‘Drivers License’ made her the star that she is now. The overwhelming colors and emotions of youth, and pathos come easily in these years of growing.

First Appearance

‘Old Navy’ commercial in 2015, within a short period after doing that commercial she appeared as the main lead on the Grace Thomas directed video movie ‘Grace Stirs Up Success’.

Her Career with Disney Plus

In 2016 she was widely recognized for the role of Paige Olvera, Disney Plus series Bizaardvark’s guitarist. And she was associated with the role and the show for three long years. On February 19, she was cast for the role of Nini Salazar-Roberts, for the Disney Plus series, ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’. The show premiered in November of the same year. In the series, she has written the song ‘All I Want’. And also co-wrote with Joshua Bassett ‘Just for a Moment’.

In 2020 she signed up with Interscope Records and Geffen Records. Her first solo track ‘Driver’s License’ was released on the 8th of 2021. She was widely appreciated for this song and by 11th January the Spotify record broke reaching 17 million global streams. Her debut number placed her at the pinnacle place on Billboard Hot 100.

On 1st April 2021, she released her next song Deja Vu, which reached 8th position on Billboard hot 100. Shortly after on 14th May she released Good 4 U, the second that took her to the top-most position on Billboard.

In May itself, to be precise on the 21st of May, she released her first studio album Sour. The Gen Z artist received several nominations for her works that were released in 2021. And within a year she reached and made a wide fan base with her sheer musical talents. The top magazine ‘Variety’ claimed her to be ‘the voice of her generation’.

On 6th December she announced her world tour which included the United States, Canada, and Europe. Shortly after that, she was named the ‘Entertainer of the Year’ by Time. And according to Billboard, she is the best-selling single artist in the world. ‘Sour’ is the third most-streamed album on Spotify and her single ‘Drivers License’ is the fourth most-streamed single of the year.

On 17th February the trailer of her Disney Plus documentary movie ‘Driving Home 2 U (a SOUR film)’ came out. And the movie was released on 25th March 2022.

Great Success at the 64th Grammys

Rodrigo received seven nominations in the 64th Grammy Awards; she won in three of the seven categories. She received the Best New Artist; the Album of the Year for ‘Sour’, and ‘Drivers License’ won her the Record of the Year.

The answer is actually described in the above line. She is a dedicated and hard-working artist who started her career at an age of twelve and thirteen. She knew she performs well and she sharpened her musical forms over the years and within a year she deluged the music industry with her cultivated musical numbers, backed-well with heart-tormenting truthful lyricism delivering lines like, ‘I hope you’re happy, but don’t be happier’. One doesn’t have to be a teenager or a Gen Z to relate to a line like this one. Her first song ‘Drivers License’ was associated with various controversies. But keeping that aside her song went viral on TikTok making it a trend.

The music industry has been resonating her music career with Taylor Swift and how she became a star within a short period. And Taylor Swift sang about the coming of age song with her graceful accent. Rodrigo is introducing an elevated aspect, introducing various shades of young love into her songs.

World Tour

She announced the tour in December 2021, and the ‘Sour Tour’ started on 2nd April. And after coving the United States she will start her Europe tour on June 11th from Hamburg Germany finally wrapping it up in Amsterdam, the Netherlands on the 22nd of June.
