The Sudden Demise of Eminent Artists and Celebrities in 2022

2022 has been a year of both celebration and melancholy. After the terrific pandemic, people from all continents are trying their best to overcome this situation. But this year, worldwide music lovers have also lost many luminaries within the wide sphere of the music community. In 2022, some huge icons, from Calvin Simon to Mark Lanegan and lots of other pioneers like Darius Campbell Danesh and PnB Rock passed away due to known and unknown reasons. In order to take a look at their contributions, here is a list of some prolific musical artists who gifted their best to enrich the wealth of modern music.

Calvin Simon (22^nd May, 1942 to 6^th January, 2022)

Calvin Eugene Simon was an American singer who was a member of the bands Parliament and Funkadelic. Born and brought up in West Virginia, he helped to steer the RnB, Funk, Acid, Rock, and much more.

Ronnie Spector (10^th August, 1943 to 12^th January, 2022)

Veronica Yvette Greenfield, mostly popular as Ronnie Spector, was an American singer who co-founded and fronted the girl group ‘The Ronettes’. In 1980 she released her debut solo album ‘Siren’. Some notable tracks of hers are ‘He Did It’ and ‘So Young’.

Meat Loaf (27^th September, 1947 to 20^th January, 2022)

Michael Lee Aday, known professionally as Meat Loaf was an American Rock singer and extremely popular for his powerful, wide-ranging voice and theatrical live shows. His 1977 debut ‘Bat Out Of Hell’ is one of the bestselling albums of all time.

Jamal Edwards (24^th August, 1990 to 20^th February, 2022)

Jamal Edwards was a British music entrepreneur and founder of the online RnB/ Hip-Hop platform. He gave early exposure to prolific artists like Ed Sheeran, Stormzy, and Dave for nurturing their careers.

Mark Lanegan (25^th November, 1964 to 22^nd February, 2022)

American singer, songwriter, and poet Mark Lanegan was a cult classic Rock artist. He debuted with the studio album, ‘The Winding Street’ in 1990. Lanegan became prominent as the lead singer of ‘Grunge’ and ‘Screaming Trees’.

Taylor Hawkins (17^th February, 1972 to 25^th March, 2022)

American musician Oliver Taylor Hawkins was an icon of rock, best known as the drummer of the rock band Foo Fighters with whom he recorded eight studio albums between 1999 and 2021.

Jordan (23^rd June, 1955 to 3^rd April, 2022)

Pamela Rooke was a fashion icon and rock legend who took the initiative of rebellion and changed her name to Jordan at 14 years old. With her highly imaginative makeup and clothing, Rook was a linchpin of the London scene that produced the Sex Pistols.

Naomi Judd (11^th January, 1946 to 30^th April, 2022)

Naomi Judd was famous for making country music and forming a band with her daughter Wynonna. ‘The Judds’ became a very successful country music band that won five Grammy Awards.

Ric Parnell (13^th August, 1951 to 1^st May, 2022)

Ric Parnell was an English Rock drummer notable for his work in the ‘Atomic Rooster’. Although he was a musician, still he was best known for his role as Mick Shrimpton in ‘This Is Spinal Tap’.

Vangelis (29^th March, 1943 to 17^th May, 2022)

Evangelos Odysseas Papathanassiou aka Vangelis was a largely self-taught musician and renowned composer of all time. He became famous for the soundtracks of ‘Blade Runner’ and ‘Chariots of Fire’. Also, later on, he won an Oscar for his work.

Andy Fletcher (8^th July, 1961 to 26^th May, 2022)

Andrew John Fletcher, also popular as Fletch was an English keyboard artist and founding member of ‘Depeche Mode’. This band released its first debut studio album in 1981. Until his death, he maintained his position as one of the most influential electronic artists of all time.

Ronnie Hawkins (10^th January, 1935 to 29^th May, 2022)

Ronald Cornett Hawkins was an American singer-songwriter from Canada. He formed ‘The Hawks’ in the early ‘60s and became a mentor for his backing musicians. In 1994, after forming ‘The Band’ they were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Julee Cruise (1^st December, 1956 to 9^th June 2022)

Julee Ann Cruise was an American Dream Pop artist, famous for her collaboration with composer Angelo Badalamenti and Film director David Lynch in the 1980s and 90s. Her debut studio album was ‘Floating into the Night’.

Paul Ryder (24^th April, 1964 to 15^th July, 2022)

English Bassist Paul Ryder was the founding member of ‘Happy Mondays’. He was an active member of the band throughout most of its history. He was a part of the debut album of Happy Monday’s 1987 release ‘Squirrel and G-Man Twenty Four Hour Party People Plastic Face Carnt Smile (White Out)’.

Olivia Newton-John (28^th September, 1948 to 8^th August, 2022)

Dame Olivia Newton-John was a British-Australian singer, actress, and activist. She was a four-time Grammy Award Winner. Her music career included 15 top-ten singles, including five number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100.
