It felt like the moment Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner met, they instantly knew they had found the one for each other, and so did the fans. Just after a year, they started dating, the two were engaged and got married a few years later. Since then the couple had two children together. However, their whirlwind romance lasted till 2023 when Joe Jonas filed for divorce.
Here is the entire timeline of their romance, relationship, and marriage, from when they started dating, to their divorce and lives post-breakup.
2016
Sophie Turner first appeared in the life of Joe when in October 2016 fans spotted the Game Of Thrones star in the background of a group photo posted to Instagram. Sophie was wearing bunny ears and standing just below the musician who was dressed as what appeared to be a dog. Then the next month, Joe’s band DNCE performed at the MTV EMAs, where the singer was seen seated next to his lady at the Oude Luxor Theater at a pre-MTV Europe Music Awards Kings of Leon concert with his arms around her. Witnesses even claimed that the two were kissing. The same year the two were spotted again along with Joe’s brother Nick Jonas at a friend’s wedding in Malibu. By December, the relationship between Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner was kind of official but the two were still keeping things private. According to a source in People “They’re dating exclusively. He was playing the field, but he really likes her and is willing to settle down for her.”
2017
To start the amazing year of 2017, Turner made the relationship Instagram official. She posted a picture of Joe smoking a cigar while riding on the back of a boat and captioned the picture “Miami daze.” According to an Us Weekly report, the pair was spotted kissing at the Golden Globes after-party. Then the couple continue to flirt and show emotions toward each other on Instagram. When Turner posted a picture of herself wearing Louis Vuitton at the BAFTAs on Instagram, Jonas left a fire emoji in the comment section. In May 2017 the couple were allegedly kissing at the Met Gala after party but did not appear on the red carpet together. Then in July of the same year, the couple started slowly talking about the relationship in the media. “I’m in a relationship, but it’s a very private relationship,” Turner told the U.K.’s Sunday Times on July 4. “I very much isolated myself for a while and forgot what was fun. Going out with friends, going out to eat, not really having a care,” she explained. “And people I’ve met recently in my life have drawn me out of that. It really helps you own those insecurities. The things I tortured myself about before, I can forget about.”
In September of the same year, the couple adopted a puppy, a Siberian husky named Porky Basquiat. After just a year together, In October 2017, the couple announced their engagement with a matching post of Sophie wearing her engagement ring on Instagram.
2018
The next year Sophie opened up about her engagement to DNCE singer Joe Jonas to People. “It’s lovely to be engaged,” she said.

“Not like I achieved anything, but I found my person like I’d find a house that I love and want to stay in forever. There’s a sense of peace that comes with finding your person. But there’s a drive that comes with your career.” In October, the couple officially made their red carpet debut at the Louis Vuitton show during Paris Fashion Week. This year the couple also spent the Holidays in London with Jonas’ family, which included the newlywed Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra.
2019
In the cover story of Glamour UK, Sophie said that Joe Jonas helped her find herself again. “A lot of [my happiness now] is to do with being with a person I’ve fallen in love with, who loves me more than he loves himself, and who wants to see me find my own happiness,” she said. “That was probably the biggest thing that pushed me to find who I am—and find my happiness in things other than acting.” In the same month, the Jonas Brothers released their official comeback music video for ‘Sucker’ which starred Sophie.
In May of the same year, in an interview with the Sunday Times, Sophie admitted that the couple broke up for 24 hours before getting back together. “It was the worst day of our lives. For a second we both had cold feet, then 24 hours later we were both, like, ‘Never mind,’” Sophie Turner said.
It was the same month when the couple had a last-minute wedding in Las Vegas at the famous A Little White Wedding Chapel. It was just hours before the Billboard Music Awards and Diplo live-streamed the entire wedding on his Instagram. While Dan + Shay played at their wedding, the couple vowed with Ring Pop wedding rings. It was an absolute last minute wedding which only had his brothers but the couple forgot to invite their parents.
“We had to get legally married in the States, so we thought it’d be really fun to get all of our friends, invite them out, and do an impromptu wedding,” Jonas later told GQ. In June the couple had their official wedding in France.
2020
Turner was spotted with Joe Jonas and it looked like she had a baby bump. On July 22, 2020, the couple welcomed their first child, a girl named Willa.
They told People, “Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas are delighted to announce the birth of their baby.” After the birth of their first baby girl, Sophie also shared some pictures of her being pregnant, faulting the beautiful baby bump.
2021
In June, the world finally got a glimpse at their mesmerizing French wedding which had a live DJ set from Diplo and music from the Jonas Brothers, shared by Sophie herself. Joe then makes an appearance on CBS This Morning and shares the “amazing” things he has been doing in quarantine. “It’s been forced time at home,” he explained. “I’m always moving and traveling and touring. And to be in one place for a solid amount of time and just have my feet on the ground and be with my immediate family, is a time I don’t think I’ll get back. I’m so thankful and grateful.”
The pair move to Miami in September and Turner later tells ELLE UK that she hopes they end up in England. “I really love living in America but, for my mental health, I have to be around my friends and my family. And also for my daughter—I would love her to get the education and school life that I was so lucky to have. England would ideally be the final destination, but [Joe] might take quite a bit of convincing!” she says.
2022
In May 2022, the couple walked the Met Gala together where Sophie debuted her second baby bump. In an interview with ELLE UK, Sophie shares “The greatest thing in life is seeing my daughter go from strength to strength. We’re so excited to be expanding the family. It’s the best blessing ever.” Jonas was also interviewed by People where he was asked about his experience of being a dad again. He replied, “You really don’t know what to expect. I think [I’m] maybe a little less nervous [this time], but I’m just excited…It’s such an amazing part of life.” In July the couple welcomed their second child, another beautiful baby girl.
2023
Jonas appeared in an interview with Ryan Seacrest and talked about asking for Sophie’s hand in marriage from her dad. Sophie was also seen accompanying her husband when the Jonas Brothers received their Hollywood Walk of Fame. In March the couple had a very public date at the Vanity Fair Oscar after-party. Toward the end of May, Sophie also made a special appearance during Jonas’ Chicken Shop Date video.
In September, the divorce rumors started when they both were seen without their wedding rings. On September 3, TMZ reported that Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas are seeking a divorce after six months of difficulty in their relationship. On September 5th, Joe Jonas officially filed for divorce in Miami. The following day the couple shared a joint statement confirming the news of divorce on Instagram. “After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage,” they said. “There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children.”
In the same month, Sophie Turner sues Joe Jonas for keeping their children from returning to England with her. She also claimed that Joe was withholding their two children’s passports and keeping them from their “habitual residence” of England. Turner later also claimed that she learned about the divorce through the media while saying that they had agreed in December 2022 to make England their “forever home.” On September 25, the couple legally agreed to keep their children stay in New York as they continue to work through the custody case.
On October 10, court documents revealed that the couple has a temporary agreement for custody of their daughters. Through the end of 2023. The couple soon shared a joint statement, “After a productive and successful mediation, we have agreed that the children will spend time equally in loving homes in both the U.S. and the U.K.,” they said. “We look forward to being great co-parents.” After two days Jonas shared that he and Turner reached “various agreements” after their mediation and plans to “pursue an amicable resolution of all issues.”
2024

On March 18, Turner filed legal documents to reopen her and Joe’s divorce case. It was also reported that Turner is now asking the court to hear their case and grant an ordered settlement. This means their filings will now be public.
