Yes, it is finally happening! Director Sam Mendes has announced his upcoming project which will be a biopic on everyone’s favorite band ‘The Beatles‘. The exciting part of this movie project is that there will be a total of four films in this collective project, just like the members of the band. Focusing on the natural attributes of John, George, Paul, and Ringo, the fan seems to be waiting for this film which is scheduled to be in the theaters by April 2028. Taking such a long time to portray the details of each band member shows that it is going to be an exciting project.
The Cast for The Beatles
Another buzzing factor of this project is the cast which includes some of the most talented young actors in Hollywood right now. The directors already accounted for the cast at Cinema Con in Las Vegas which includes Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney who has recently gained much attention with his performance in Normal People. There will be Barry Keoghan from Saltburn as the very talented Ringo Starr. Eddie Munson in Stranger Things and also the Human Torch from the upcoming ‘Fantastic Four’ film better known as Joseph Quinn will be playing the character of George Harrison. Last but not least, there will be Harris Dickinson as John Lenon who has recently created a buzz with his chemistry with Nicole Kidman in Babygirl.
The Fab Four cast is a favorite of the fans and these talented lads have previously won the hearts of their fans with spectacular acting. Therefore, the fans of Rock n Roll and The Beatles are willing to relive the moment. The four of them came out in Las Vegas and showed utmost love for the fans with an Ed Sullivan-style bow and reciting some lines from the “Sgt. Pepper.” They said, “It’s wonderful to be here,” and further added, “It’s certainly a thrill. You’re such a lovely audience, we’d like to take you home with us.”
Barry Keoghan is currently, 32-years-old which is the exact age of Ringowhen the Band broke up. The catchphrase “Each man has his own story, but together they are legendary” is being used to celebrate the dynamic personalities of each member. Ringo had an act-naturally style which goes pretty well with Keoghan’s acting skills as seen in the Saltburn. However, it is not just acting but dancing also that makes Keoghan perfect for Ringo who can still dance at the age of 84.
Similarly, Dickinson has also sparked a buzz with his recent acting performances. When he was asked about playing the role of John Lenon, he said, “it would be a really interesting role.” The Triangle of Sadness star further added, “John Lennon is someone I’ve looked at as a really complex figure, so to step into that would be challenging as an actor,” and also expressed, “It’d be a great challenge.” On the other hand, there is Oscar nominee Paul Mescal portraying the role of Sir Paul McCartney. Currently, he is busy playing the role of Stanley Kowalski in A Streetcar Named Desire. He has recently appeared in the movie Gladiator II and captivated a lot of people with his performance in Hulu’s Normal People.
31-year-old Brit actor Joseph Quinn is best known for his high-octane performance in Stranger Things and the role of George Harrison will shine his career. Other than that, he has also signed with the MCU world as Marvel’s Fantastic World is coming soon and he will be playing the role of Human Torch or Johnny. Previously, this role was claimed by Chris Evans also known as Steve Rodgers, the Captain America. However, the cast for the other roles has not been revealed yet. Fans are very curios to know about who is going to play the role of like Lennon’s wife, musician Yoko Ono.
The Title of the Movie
Biopics are nothing new in Hollywood and there are plenty of examples of that including Timothée Chalamet’s latest biopic on Bob Dylan called ‘A Complete Unknown’. However, the movie for The Beatles is going to be a highly ambitions one with four different parts. It has been building anticipation among the fans since it was last rumored last year. The title is decided to be ‘The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event’ and the director seems very proud of it as he said, “We’re not just making one film about the Beatles—we’re making four,” at CinemaCon. The idea here is not just to show the band but to focus on each member through each movie. Mendes further said, “Perhaps this is a chance to understand them a little more deeply.”
The Director’s Take
The Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes is a man of mystery himself and he can easily say, “the story was too huge to fit into a single movie.” When it comes to the members, he said, “They’re four very different human beings,” and so he could just put them together in a single feature film. He added, “But together, all four films will tell the story of the greatest band in history. I just felt the story of the band was too huge to fit into a single movie, and that turning it into a TV miniseries just somehow didn’t feel right.” He said, “We need big cinematic events to get people out of the house,” and it is working! Sony chief Tom Rothman addressed it as “the first bingeable theatrical experience.”
A Musical Masterpiece
All four films by Mendes will have exclusive rights to the Beatles’ massive music catalog which makes it the first-ever feature film to have rights to feature all the massive hits by the band such as “Let It Be,” “Strawberry Fields,” “Yellow Submarine,” “I Am the Walrus,” and the list goes on. This cinematic masterpiece will revive the love for The Beatles through the big screen. Perhaps, it is the biggest musical biopic project in a decade.
The Beatles Obsession
Just like mentioned before, Hollywood loves biopics but what it likes even more is The Beatles. While people would craze over movies made on f John, Paul, George, and Ringo; the same enthusiasm could be found missing in other cases which is why nobody is making movies over bands like Rolling Stone, Led Zeppelin, or The Dead. While the revered musical legends can get one or two biopics made on them; The Beatles biopic will offer four movies. They play a different role in world music as well as in global dreams which inspire the listeners. Actors are basically doing celebrity impersonation right now and The Beatles is more like an emotion and fans would leave no chance to complain if they find one.
Mendes has previously made many amazing movies such as American Beauty, Jarhead, Revolutionary Road, and also some James Bond movies that are greatly intriguing for global audiences. They are quite hopeful that the upcoming Beatles project going to be another treat for them. The appetite for rockstar movies is immense among music lovers who quickly turn into movie buffs when a musical biopic arrives. Previously, Rami Malek stunned everyone by winning an Oscar for Best Actor for playing Freddy Mercury, the lead member of the Queen. Timothee Chalamet’s enticing performance in A Complete Unknown has set the bar even higher for celebrity biopics made on music artists.
Numerous Beatles movies have been already made in the industry which brings the question of why there are so many Beatles movies and the answer is simple, people are obsessed. The list of movies includes the 1978 TV movie The Birth of the Beatles, 2009’s John Lenon biopic Nowhere Boy, and many others. The ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ was a 70s flop which made it confirmed that Hollywood musical is a bad idea. 25 years ago, a film was released through VH1 named ‘Two of Us’ which was a loving movie made about John and Paul. Evidently, The Beatles is not just a band but a story that can captivate everyone. Medes said in Las Vegas, “There had to be a way to tell the epic story for a new generation,” and further added, “I can assure you there is still plenty left to explore.” It goes without saying that the band’s contributions are quite precious for the world and the world deserves to know they are made. The Epic Beatles adventure starts soon with a hefty rock n roll influence.
