The internet is greatly vocal after a college in Florida canceled a singing group’s performance due to at least one member’s sexuality. This incident has greatly enraged students, musicians, and people around the globe.

The group is known as The King’s Singers which is a highly revered a cappella music group that has more than 50 years of glorious history. This British Group is an all-male group that performs a variety of songs, ranging from pop to classical as well as sacred gospels.

The group claimed that their performance has been canceled with only a “two hours’ notice” due to the college’s “‘concerns’ about the ‘lifestyle’ of members of our group.” Their performance was supposed to take place on February 11 concert at Pensacola Christian College, a private independent Baptist institution.

The musical group posted on social media “It has become clear to us, from a flood of correspondence from students and members of the public, that these concerns related to the sexuality of members of our group.”

On the other hand, the college has also shared a statement to support its reasoning. It says, “PCC canceled a concert with The King’s Singers upon learning that one of the artists openly maintained a lifestyle that contradicts Scripture.” The scripture belongs to articles of faith in the school and there’s a section referring to sexuality.

It says, “We believe that God has commanded that sexual activity be exclusively reserved to a man and a woman who are legally married to each other.” It further reads, “sexual immorality including adultery, fornication, homosexuality, bestiality, incest, and use of pornography.” However, the college claimed that the artists were “treated with dignity and respect when informed of the cancellation.”

It is quite absurd as The King’s Singers have already performed in the college before. It sparked a controversy within the small liberal arts college and beyond. Everybody is questioning PCC’s weird reasoning as in recent years, the college witnessed performances by many artists and such an incident never occurred.

Francis Poulenc and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky also performed there. These two classical music legends are also known for their male romantic interests but they were never questioned or canceled. This is the morally right decision but how come this prestigious institution is still offering such reasons in 2023?

From the day of the incident, there have been many “arguments and mini protests” on the PCC campus.
