Just when other countries are still struggling with the consecutive waves of Coronavirus, New Zealand is rocking with a COVID-free concert on 24th April.
More than 50,000 people gathered in a massive rock concert that was completely free of social distancing and face-covering restrictions. The island nation has successfully banished COVID-19 and its strict policies.
The rock band Six60 has performed in front of a huge crowd on Saturday which was their tour Finale. The band has been performing across the country and Saturday even was the biggest concert since the pandemic began.
The concert took place over Auckland’s biggest stadium and attracted many fans from neighboring Australia. It is the place where music and sports have merged.
A game between the Essendon Bombers and Collingwood Magpies was held at Melbourne Cricket Ground with a sitting capacity of 100,000. It was the highest attendance in sports events since the pandemic.
Last year, a highly anticipated match between these teams was played in an empty stadium. The fanatics roared on the Anzac Day, a day to remember for both Australia and New Zealand. Essendon Bombers won the match with a 109-85 score.
Not only the match but the Sunday concert also quite thrilling for the fans as Six60 performed on stage with the indigenous Maori performers. The band also honored military musicians.
Matiu Walters, the lead singer of the band, started the show by saying “We know what it’s like to be in lockdown. It sucked. And we didn’t know if we’d be able to play gigs again.”

Ji Fraser, the guitarist of the band, said “It was amazing to see how fanatical people were and excited about being out and seeing live music, and seeing something to drag them out of a long, brutal year.” It was a very special event for him.
Lucy Clumpas said, “It’s very important for us as humans to be able to get together and sing the same songs together; It makes us feel like we’re part of something.”
However, Prime Minister Helen Clark was not very with it and called it a “home invasion” of noise.
Walters seemed quite confident and invited PM on the next geek. He said, “But the people wanted it. And the people spoke.” He further added, “Six60 is for everyone. And maybe if she came and enjoyed herself, she’d have a change of heart.”
New Zealand is one of the most successful countries to stop the consecutive waves of the pandemic. According to research, only 26 people died out of five million citizens of the nation.
